First watch the maintenance/tuning videos on colt22rimfire.com. You're probably going to want to shoot bulk ~1250 fps 22lr. So you may have to adjust the mainspring set screw (detailed in the videos). I suggest you shoot a few hundred rounds before thinking about aftermarket parts.

When it comes to these rifles, the most important thing you can add is a scope, and I don't recommend that your scope be more expensive then the rifle!
I assume yours will have the carrying handle design with the built in sight. You may need to remove the carrying handle and get a small riser mount to saddle the scope on.
Choose your ammo wisely, I personally recommend CCI minimags HP 1260fps/36 grain (after trials and tribulations with other brands and also sub brand) These will cycle through the rifle with ease and precision with the least wear and tear.

Congratulations and enjoy your new toy!

i bought a cheap red dot, but i kind of like iron sights.
yea so far ive been using that for the ruger 10-22 with no misfeeds but i dont know if it is the same with the colt

I'd say leave it alone if you got the M16 version. I always like the way the M16A2s look!!
