Sig 522 1st Trip to the Range

Okay, I've been waiting anxiously since pickup up from Sacramento Black Rifle on Wednesday and was able to make it to the Gun Room. Most of my shooting was offhand and I was very pleased to be shooting 1.5" grouping @ 25 yards.

Before shooting, I did do a cleaning and lubrication. I also cycled the action about a hundred times before the range session (mostly because I wanted to play with it...anxious an all).

Like others have said, it has pretty much eaten up everything that I've fed it. I say pretty much because I has one issue with the Winchester group (but I think it was a dud. I shook the round and it rattled inside ).

    I shot...

300 rounds of Federal 550 round value pack.
200 rounds of Winchester 333 round (36 gr. 1280 FPS) - 1 dud. Rattling round?
    100 rounds of CCI Stingers.
100 rounds of Remington Gold Bullet (that crap is messy on the hands).
    200 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt.

I shot them in the order listed above. I saved the Thunderbolt for last because I saw someone post that YouTube of these rounds fouling up so bad it essentially smoothed out the bore. I shot 200 rounds without a single issue.

That was very fun to shoot (now my favorite gun). People at the range were asking about it and I even let a guy shoot it. I know others wanted to try...remember feel free to ask if at the range. I would have let more shoot it if they just asked.

Nice range report and typical for the Sig522, you picked a nice tactical 22LR.. Congrats!

I think it liked the Stingers most. (or maybe I liked em the most). The stingers aren't worth it for just target shooting though. I think the Thunderbolts had a little more punch to them, but it might have been that it got slow right around lunch time and I was shooting without other larger calibers going off at the same time.

I hear CCI Blazers are the one to shoot....but...I haven't shot them yet. I guess I liked the Federal 550 value pack because it was the cleanest round and also got me pretty good grouping as well. All the others (except for the Stingers) had a lot of residue on them.

wow 900 rds in one outing. i can see why it would like stingers. 1 in 16 twist and stingers are one of the lightest 32 gr. try aguila hypermax, 30 gr. up to 1800 fps. it's effect on metal objects, from solid billet aluminum to layers of robust gauge (old computer case side panels) sheet steel are epic, so i've heard.

The receiver is indeed a forged quality aluminum alloy on par with mil-spec m16 uppers right? Thats what i've heard, haven't confirmed.

                SWWEEEETTT...

My rifle loved the Stingers too, by far though they are the most pricey...
I will stick with the new CCI AR Tactical 22lr ammo for now

                Great report, thanks for sharing.

Nice! I'm already impatient to get mine. This isn't helping.

Nice report and welcome to the 522 family!

What grip do you have on that thing? Looks comfortable.

They came with my Bushnell Trophy Red Dot. See the following link. http://www.opticsplanet.net/printabl...s-422152m.html. That page has an image of the mounting rings off to the side of the scope.

Also, the Hogue Handall grip is very comfortable. I am used to it because it is on my USP. However, it isn't as snug as on my USP. It was easier to get on and therefore it slips around. I'm going to try the Hogue Handall Stick Kit later and report back on how solid that stays on. Removing the grip isn't an option. I like it a lot.

Cool thanks! I ordered a set of medium height rings, which I think will do what I need.
