CCI: Mini-mag vs. Blazer
Collapse

The only ammo I've put through my Ruger thus far has been the Remington Golden Bullets (which I do not recommend as they've failed to feed several times), and CCI Blazers (which have been consistent in their overall performance).
My new TactSol barrel has a strong intolerance for the Rem G.B's and that suits me just fine as I've already purchased a brick of CCI Blazers (which I am told is the round for this barrel) for my next couple shooting excursions.
The range just outside of Lincoln off HW65 doesn't mind me firing off the Blazers. What about the one in Rancho?

Thats funny cause CCI said otherwise to me on the phone and to many other people through email. Not only that but for a while Federal also made the 500 packs for CCI as well and they are in fact different.the 500 vs 525 MAY have been true many years ago, but now it is just a persistent myth that keeps rolling...quality between the 2 NO DIFFERENCE...but buy what you want; i'll take the extra 25 everytime...
...and i always buy blazer by the case, both 500 and 525 (depends on availability where i get it)...they come from the SAME source in Idaho; i know there is no difference...Comment

*Federal bulk ammo, CCI Blazer, CCI mini-mags, American Eagle, should all be good. Do not use the Stingers and stay away from the Remington Golden Bullets and hyper velocity.
Thank you!*
This was the reply I received from a TactSol rep in regards to which ammo I should use for my barrel. This may provide some sort of correlation.

come mongoose, really?...how long you gonna ride this horse?
cci told you, on the phone, that the today's blazer 500 bulk packs are manufactured DIFFERENTLY, in a DIFFERENT FACTORY, from the blazer 525 bulk packs?...learn about the manufacturing box codes and the difference between federal and cci; they don't lie...it say lewiston, idaho on 525 bulk pack, same as on 500 bulk..i got 2 cases of 525 and 2 cases of 500; all are labeled coming from lewiston, idaho...federal is in anoka, minnesota...
...if anyone's got an email from cci stating federal makes any cci bulk packs, then state it; set me straight...
negative mongoose, the pattern is full.Comment

I bought some blazers when I first got my GSG. They worked fine for the first trip. That was the 500 box (separated) then I bought a bulk box, 1 round per mag jammed. Shot the rest of the box while cursing and pulling out my hair. Loaded up some mini mags and no problems. I could also notice a distinct higher cracking sound to the minimags. They also seemed to shoot an inch or so higher. Could just be me or the gun.
That's just my experience.Comment

One thing I did notice about mini-mags vs. blazer is that the mini's come in both a 40 gr. round nose and a 36 gr. hollow point. The blazers are only available in the 40 gr round nose AFAIK. Could that have been the source of the noticeable difference between the two?I could also notice a distinct higher cracking sound to the minimags. They also seemed to shoot an inch or so higher. Could just be me or the gun.

Id like to see some Blazers with a 36 grain hp. Id buy a whole pile of them if they were close to the same price.Comment

That was my first experience with my box as well. 525 box, the first 100 rounds were flawless then when I got to 180-200 I also had 1 FTF in every mag then it got a little more frequent(2 or 3). I think I'll give them another go if they're on sale, though. That was the only problem I had with my M&P 15-22 so far.R.I.P. blazers are dirty; they are cci's bulk/cheapest ammo so no surprise...but they are less dirty than federal bulk...with my semi's i'm good for 8-10 mags then feed issues start to occur...with federal bulk that happens around 5-6 mags...but after a quick cleaning/flushing of the breech i'm good to go again...
with minimags (or velocitors), i've never had to clean during a shooting session...
my wish for a blazer version; a copper-washed option.Comment
