    Finally finished my 10/22 project

Finally got her done Friday night. Took her out to the range Sunday and is very pleased. One jagged hole @ 25 yards. After a while it was not fun anymore shooting @ 25 yards so my son suggested shooting @ 100 yards. It shot no larger than 5" group @ 100 yards all day with Federal bulk ammo. What do you all think?

I believe I can shrink that 5" a little with match ammo and better optics. 00BuckShot, I doubt it if it will go down to 1" but I will have fun trying though. A whole lot cheaper than shooting .22LR than any centerfire calibers.

That looks great! What did you do for painting the pieces?

Nothing is painted by me. The trigger group is a Volquartsen TG2000 and came factory painted. Very nice trigger with absolutely no creep and very crisp. I'll experiment with different match ammo to try to shrink the 5" group to at least 3-4" @ 100 yards...do you think it is possible with the right ammo? What do you guys think is the best grouping ammo @ 100 yards?

I though I'll be a little patriotic and go with red, white & blue.

That's one slick looking 10/22, however you should be shooting 1-2" with a match grade barrel. I've got the ruger cold hammer forged barrel and I can stay 1" all day long a 100 yards. At 150 it scatters to 2" roughly. I'm shooting federal 40gr lead RN, not the match stuff or bulk. Are you using some sort of rest to control the front end at least?

Could be just be me as I forgot my corrective lenses that day, the ammo (Federal 525 bulk), the rest (just a wooden block which moved a lot) or a combination of all of it. I'm taking it out again Monday and I'll bring my machine rest and some match ammo to see if I can shrink it closer to 2". I suspect it is the rest as @ 25 yards it prints one jagged hole. Maybe you Ruger cold hammer forged is better than my barrel hence you get better results.

I'm not sure I'd call my barrel better without knowing how yours was made; yours looks pretty custom made. The 525 bulk will not always give the best results, but is great for plinking. I look at one of my federal ammo boxes and it says 510, pricing on this stuff is very close to 525; you might want to try a couple of boxes. Good luck on your next trip to the range.
