    10/22 mods for Appleseed?

What mods and set up (stock, sights, and innerds) would you make to a stock 10/22, without breaking the bank, to have a decent rifle for an Appleseed weekend?

TechSights are the only pricey upgrade I think you really need to have for an Appleseed rifle ($59 for the TSR100, no good reason to get the TSR200 IMO). You'll also need sling studs/swivels and a GI web sling. If you want to upgrade the stock just for the heck of it (not at all necessary), the Hogue overmolds are nice, fairly inexpensive, and they come with integral sling studs.

The only reason you'd need new innards on a Appleseed 10/22 is if it's not running right with the stock ones. An aftermarket extractor helped a lot with my stovepipe problems, and seems to be a pretty common reliability upgrade. Lightly polish the stock internals if your trigger is gritty, but don't try to change the geometry of anything for safety's sake. You're also going to want several magazines so you won't be SOL if one of your mags is having problems.

Go stock then think about mods as you go along.

I am taking apart my Fungun kit gun with finned bbl (for sale in the classifieds) and have the reciever ready to put together for an Appleseed shooter. I was hoping to use $ from the sale to buy a new stock, barrel, parts, sling, etc... to make a nice shooter. Just wondering what you shooters would do in my shoes.

          Tech sights
          Auto bolt release
Extended mag release (the 5 dollar one, not the expensive one)
          Volquartsen extractor

          That's it.

I have been thinking of snagging a 10/22 from Big 5 just for an Appleseed shoot.

I have my custom 10/22 but it is not setup for something like an Appleseed shoot.

And elbow pads. Was bleeding on second day, lots of prone shooting.

                Dito, with a few changes:

Extended mag release (the 5 dollar one, not the expensive one) The new 10/22's come with an extended one already, you may not need to buy one
Volquartsen extractor Agree, and keep the original as a spare. If you have a case rupture in a 10/22 it usually spits the extractor out.

That's it. With the Tech sites, you may need to raise up the comb of the stock for proper eye alignment. I used a stock pack, but some foam and tape will acomplish the same thing.
Also: a set of uncle mikes sling swivles mounts and swivles and a GI cotton sling.

All I did was add Tech-sights, Extended mag release, and a sling and it worked fine for me.

Any of you guys who don't yet have a 10/22: Turner's has 10/22's on sale right now for $199 for the blued model and $209 for the stainless. I bought one today for Appleseed, using my AR got pricey with the ammo costs

                            Not in a 10/22 thread

Most performance mods can be done if your handy with power/tools and a Dremel which are listed on a lot of 10/22 forums. 1" groups at 50 yards using Federal bulk Walmart ammo is not un common. Best mod for the money:

                              (1) Power Custom hammer/sear/shims/bearing kit: 49.95 After a break in of 100 rounds the trigger is butta smoooth

                              (2) A decent variable mildot scope for @ 60-100
                              (3) Decent .22 ammo (standard velocity) for tighter groups
