I don't mean to be a grammar Nazi but, well here I go.

The phrase is to pass muster. Muster being when a group of soldiers were gathered and inspected to make sure they were acceptably dressed and equipped.

To pass mustard is to give someone else that tangy yellow bottle of goodness.

Why not have two tubular mags that are vertical and you can just rotate them?

Think of pulling the mag tubes forward maybe 1/4" and rotating them. Have a 'cover' that stays in place per the mouth of the receiver, for the bottom tube to not let the rounds fall out?
