I'd like to re-examine the idea in the context of the new Kel Tec Shotgun's method for switching between magazines. Since 22lr is regarded as purely a sporting round (nudge, wink), I think the idea of two tubular magazines in say a Marlin-esque 14 rd length and with a toggle switch (perhaps one that also functions as the cocking mechanism) would pass mustard - CA DOJ mustard. 14 shots then a brief toggle pause followed by 14 more shot. Really exciting sport shooting practice and events of say 24 steel targets perhaps with multiple shooting stations and postures, count hits and timed.
Or attempts at the very limits of 22lr range challenges with no spotter aid. 10 rds would just be irritating.
Or simply the convenance of shooting multiple targets at difficult ranges and being able to adjust sights or attempt kentucky style off sight adjustments and not having to reload, a disruption that can throw off any progress made, like starting from scratch.
The 14 + 14 attempts at 24 steel timed would make for a really exciting Olympic event for TV with technique spanning the different stances, strategies for the order in which to engage targets, and bio mechanics in all the transitioning and super fast tube switching.
The less threatening look of double tubular vs 30 round detachable magazines would make the event have a larger audience and in general I think would be palatable to CA's lobbyists.
Now. To find someone to make it.
