It will be all metal and removable. It's hard to tell from the CAD but it has some kind of x type feeding system that is supposed to be much easier to load.
I'll post more info on it as it comes. I can't wait to get my hands on one. CMMG is still testing the proto type.

will it be compatible with stuff that uses BDM mags? IE 522 or spikes/tacsol/etc?

Yes it will. If you can use a BDM mag, the new CMMG will work great.

Darn! when I read the title of this post... I thought it was referring to an AR that shot 22 WMR ammo!

I truthfully have no idea why soneone would want the "skinny" mag.
I need to get a pic of the standard 25 round set up. It will fit flush with the bottom of the outer case.
These are totally modular. Eveything comes apart for cleaning. The clear sections can be as short as 10 rounds or be joined togther for ultra high cap. Longer springs will be available for up to 75 rounds. Too long a mag for me, but hey, someone will want it.
For me, I'll probably stick with the G.I. look. There are some other options that will be very appealing down the road a little but I can't release that now.
This is just the first prototype to check function.
The metal feed lips would probably last a life time.

Another advantage to these is they will run about the same price as the existing mags, but have much more versatility.

That's good to hear, but what does this have to do with CMMG's new mag?

The idea behind the CMMG modular mags is they are adaptable. For CA, this may not be as important because of the 10 round restriction.
These mag inserts can be linked together. A high cap 25 round can be joined to a 10 round for 35 rounds. 3 25 round can be connected for 75 rounds, or any other combination. Everything comes apart. The metal feed tower is seperate from the mags. The follower is a 1 piece totally new design.

When the mags go into production, the inserts will be smoked, not clear.
Different mag bodies will be offered including a stand G.I. looking mag body.
The new followers will make loading much easier, due to design.
With the ability to come completely apart, they will be easy to clean.

These mags will also operate the Bolt Hold Open Actuater and should work even more reliably with the new follwer engaging the BHOA.

The skinny mags do look correct with an AR Pistol configuration.

CMMG is also coming out with a limited run of billet .22 mags.
