New 17hmr Recommendations?

Like the title says, I'm looking for a new 17hmr because my Remington 597 was recalled, and is going to be rebarreled as a 22mag.

I am mainly looking for accuracy and quality in a rifle, most likely a bolt action.

The Sako Quad looks amazing, but they are near impossible to find, especially when I want the heavy barrel. I'm also not too sure if it's really worth $350 more than a CZ.

I'm also thinking about the CZ 452 varmint heavy barrel, or possibly the new 455, but the 455 doesn't have a heavy barrel so I'm undecided between the two.

I have seen Savages, but I dont know much about them. Are they comparable to the CZ or Sako? Are there any other good rifles to look into? Any input or opinions are welcome, Thanks guys.

I own a Savage .17HMR Classic 93R17....atleast I think it's a 93R17 it's not in front of me at the moment. It is however one of the best shooting guns I own. I have a Bushnell 3200 Elite on it and man is it fun to shoot.

I bought a Savage 93R17 with the scope package over two years ago. The first time I took it out to the range was the first time I had shot a rifle in over ten years. The last five, five-shot groups I shot that day were all under an inch. Since then I've had a few sub-half inch groups as well when I do my part. This rifle is SUPER accurate, and this is with the cheapie Simmons scope it came with. I got the package for less than 300 out the door without shopping around. Almost forgot, I've used CCI, Federal, and Winchester 17 grain polymer tips, and they all shoot under an inch.

Those t-bolts feel pretty sweet. I haven't shot one but I fingered one all up before I got my 453 varmint. If you want an awesome trigger and a straight shooter off the shelf I can recommend a 453.

i have a savage 93r17 ands its a fun little rifle to shoot, if i were to get another one i would look at another savage but in a bull barrel with a thumbhole stock. the accu trigger is very nice and the trigger has a crisp clean break.

CZ452 Varmint user here.
It's an older model but it kills those pesky zombie ground squirrels dead.
Shooting a 17HMR is like cheating.

CZ 452 all the way. I'm nuts for their rifles ever since getting my 452FS in .17 HMR. It's tack driver accurate and is beautifully crafted with an action that moves like glass on glass and locks up like a bank vault with a hammer forged barrel and beautiful wood on the stock. I can't believe what a great product they put out. A CZ .452 is probably the most accurate rimfire you can get for under 1k.

I've shot some of the Savage and Marlin 17's and while they were excellent rifles (and very accurate) the CZ really did it for me. It's also pretty cool to have something different from everyone else. More personal.

That browning looks great, I'll have to check one out even though it's at the very top of my price range. I think I'll hit up my two local turners and maybe the Shootist to fondle and compare anything I can find. My top choices at the moment are between the savage, cz452,453, and 455. I have seen all of those rifles listed around $400, so the $750 Browning and $850 Sako would really need to impress me to make the cut.

I've shot one of the Sako's before, it was pretty impressive. I definitely wouldn't mind one can't say anything about the Browning other than it's a Browning and I'm pretty sure it's nothing short of great. Also, you might want to keep your eyes on gunbroker for a used Anschutz. That would probably be the holy grail of rimfire. Sometimes you can find a used one for around $500-$700. I'd take one of those over ANY of the rilfes mentioned in this thread . Just a matter of waiting and checking. For the price point though, in getting a new rifle you can't do any better than a CZ IMO. The new 455 looks pretty sweet too! I've already got the "buy another CZ fund" going. Will get a .22LR this time so I can really shoot some volume. My .17 HMR has been the bane of squirrels though, that's for sure. Just can't afford to plink with it like I'd like to.

I'd have to opt for the CZ...i have two of them, 452's, one in .22 lr the other in .22 WMR both are in the near extreme accurate category.

Another vote for the Savage. Bought a used one with a scope from a fellow calgunner for $250 and it's amazingly accurate. I love my Sako 85 in .270 but I after shooting the Savage 93R17 I wouldn't spend the extra money on a Sako in 17HMR.

The Accutrigger on the Savage 93R17 is great, I picked up the BV model because I'm a sucker for laminate stocks . Very accurate rifle
