Marlin 795

IIRC it was $35 for DROS..tax and that was it. I got mine about 8 months ago when they had the 15% off coupon (it was either 20% off reg. price or 15% off sale price item). Unfortunately the new coupons excludes firearms and ammo. Also took advantage of the rebate from Marlin

Been thinking of getting a .22LR; noticed they were on sale at Big 5 for $160 with a $25 rebate, plus a $10 off coupon if I do it tomorrow, so $125+fees and taxes for a new stock model. I'm thinking I'll do it. Does anyone know how much Big 5 charges in fees and such?

I got one a few months back. took it to the range and noted the rifle was shooting left about 4" at 25 yards. There was no means to adjust the sights. Further examination of the rifle showed that front sight was not centered on the rifle and was "twisted" when compared with the rear sight.

Sent a new 2 week old rifle back to Marlin at my expense for repair. 2 weeks later and $35 shipping later, the rifle returns. Sights are fine now and rifle is fine. Irritating to get a rifle that is messed up out of the box, even more frustrating when Marlin expects me to foot the bill for their obvious mistake.

I currently have 3 different Marlin 22LR rifles, and I WAS going to get the bolt action Model 981TS but after this experience I think I will pass.

All in all, I am happy with the rifle now that it is fixed.

Nice! Well, actually the coupon I had did not exclude guns and ammo.
Definitely going to send in that rebate.

good first 22. rifle?

Hard to say without knowing what you want to do with the rifle? Hunting, target shooting, plinking, ??? I believe that for a first rifle a bolt action is the best choice. Semi-autos tend to run thru a lot of ammo and is tempting to just let her rip. I think bolts build more on technique and shooting skill and will be much more accurate out of the box for a new shooter than a semi. Just my opinion so buy what suits your needs. Good luck with your decision.

My 795 was shooting to the left as well. I noticed that the rear sights were positioned a little to the left of center so I drifted it to center. Gonna take it out and see if that fixed the problem. Otherwise great rifle.

May want to make sure the front sight is not shifted. I have now heard of many people with the front sight cocked over to one side or the other.

Hopefully you were able to get it on target by shifting like you said. I got mine back and now it is dead on. I shot it with irons for weeks, and just put my 10x30 scope on there for some long range fun, maybe this weekend!

a marlin 795 is more accurate than a 10/22 out of the box and it has a better trigger. How is that more rifle?

The Marlin is ungodly reliable, extremely consistent, accurate, whatever, right out of the box. So, you get a rifle better than a 10/22 out of the box, for the price of upgrading a 10/22 to shoot the same way AFTER you bought it. IMHO.

You can spend 150 to upgrade a 10/22 and it still isn't better than a 795/60 IMO

my marlin rocks. It was my first rifle I ever bought and its been a champ ever since. Not a single ftf or fte of any sort. Sights suck but are easily replaceable or you can make do with a scope. I have full confidence in my 795 to go boom every time.
