    Love that Ruger 22/45!!

Just got home from AZ where I finally got to shoot my new 22/45. What a great, fun pistol! The thing eats all the old crappy soft lead 22's I had laying around - even the stuff the Marlin 60 would FTF on.

And I was really surprised at the accuracy. 20 yds I was putting all the rounds in the 8 ring of a standard 25yd pistol target...OUT OF THE BOX!

If anyone is on the fence about a 22 pistol, get one of these - They ROCK!

I love mine too. Unfortunately, out of the box Cali features make it a pain to disassemble / assemble and after hearing all the stories about how hard it is to do I wanted to get that out of the way. I ended up doing quite a bit before I ever shot it. I completely stripped it all the way down to the mag release and cleaned all the brown sticky assembly grease from every nook and cranny, including the mags. Then on the way back together I eliminated the mag safety by making some washers to put in place or the spring (mag safety mod), I took the tab off the LCI, still has the LCI bar but it is not functional, removed the spring from the slide lock (slingshot mod) and painted it to match my 795. I took it out several times and shot a few thousand rounds with almost perfect results. I just got some new parts I ordered, a MKII bushing to replace the washers and a VQ sear. I also modded the trigger to set take up and reset. It feels great at about 2.5 trigger pull now. I cant wait to take it out and put another few thousand rounds through it.

BTW, now I know it inside and out and can strip it and reassemble in about 1 minute.

I love mine as well. Dirt cheap to shoot and accurate. I only wish I could get a suppressor for it.

I didn't mention accuracy but it is awesome. I can hit the small targets at 100 yards at Angeles freestanding about half of the rounds and moving across the the targets of the front row at 25 yards I'm 10 for ten most of the time. All with the factory irons.

The only thing I would change are the sights. They're good but lack contrast. I painted mine with bright orange and yellow.

+1 I painted the back of my front sight blade bright orange.

I had read about all the mods for the nanny version of this pistol and decided to consider them after I shot it. So far, I cant find a good reason to change the pistol. I am likely to change the trigger after awhile, but the mag disconnect and the LCI are harmless as far as I can tell...

I was thinking about the sight contrast as well. Has anyone use the white outline style (similar to stock Glock)?

I do wish I had got the removable panels though, the stock plastic is a bit too thin...Oh well, now I have a reason to buy another!

People gripe about the look of the LCI. As for the mag disconnect, in some of these 22/45s it somehow adds extra friction so the mags don't fall out, which can be annoying although it's not like you're doing speed re-loads with this thing anyway.

Well actually a lot of people use their Mark III pistols to shoot steel challange matches (or similar) and they kinda need the mags to fall free to save on reload time. Some people report FTE/Stovepipes are being caused by the LCI so they opt to remedy that. Others have no problem with the LCI so they leave it in.

It all depends on what you want to use your pistol for. Im picking up my Competition Target model on Saturday from gun jail

I found all the mods useful, take down is cake now and the mags shoot out now. Also I noticed another advantage to the mag safety mod. If the mag is not fully inserted it will fall back out, not so with the mag safety in place. In stock configuration the extra tension of the lever on the mag not only makes it harder to get the mag seated it sometimes causes the mag not to engage all the way but you can't really tell. I feel it's safer without it.

Good info Merc, Mongoose and Donny. I had a two instances of the pistol FTF when I inserted a full mag with the slide forward. It kept the mag from seating completely and I had to tap and rack it to get it to work. And yes, the mag doesn't fall as freely as I would like.

Seems like I may be making the mods afterall..

                        Gotta love these forums...Thanks

FWIW I plan on replacing my LCI with a non functional filler piece and using a VQ bushing and sear.

There is a small metal tab on the LCI you can remove and leave the rest of it in place as a filler. It looks factory and has no contact inside after you remove it.
