    Continued from previous post.

    5. The water cooled AA spider sight system.

This final 5th mockup, is strictly a possibility. It is my least favorite aesthetically compared to the others, but is possible to do without too much trouble other than removing the water jacket's front sight hood and replacing it with a tall front sight on the end of the water jacket to correspond to the height of the rear AA spider sight which I can make attach to the rear of the water jacket. I placed an empty cartridge case on the end of the water jacket to approximate the height of a tall front sight. I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble to make this one if it isn't as appealing as the others. Got to think about this one. What do you think about it?

Well that's my sight combination mockups. My personal favorites and preference is to just nix the four screw bracket and go only with the triangular bracket for the ladder rear sight (whenever that rear sight is used), making it removable without any unsightly holes (when uncovered) having to be made. And using that triangular rear sight along with the 1919a4 style front sight when in air cooled configuration. And the AA spider and tall front sight for the air cooled model too. I like the triangular rear sight and the Browning looking hooded post best for the water cooled version.

I've designed in some modular ability to switch around sights to whatever I want.

    Which ones do you like?

If it was me, I would say the ladder sight for air-cooled and water-cooled set ups. Both with the front sight at the end of the barrel. Just seems more practical. Wow, you could probably hit paper at 1,000 yards with that ladder sight, crank fire, and 50 round mag. Congratulations. This thread just keeps getting cooler.

By the two weird poles I was referring to the two poles in the video you linked that you use to crank the trigger with your thumbs. You will see what the paddles are in my rough sketch.

My 4th sight mockup removes the triangular rear sight & block from the faux receiver (leaving no unsightly threaded holes). Then the 1919a4 type front sight is removed from its slot on the perforated cooling shroud's sight base, and then replaced with a windage adjustable rear AA spider sight while a removable band tall front sight is attached to the muzzle end of the cooling shroud. Thus giving a totally different sighting system. The nice thing with the air cooled version's sights is that you can choose the triangular rear sight and 1919a4 type front sight, or convert it to an AA spider sight with tall front sight version. The tall front sight in the below pics does not have its band built onto it that will fit over the cooling shroud. But you can imagine it. Same as a scope band, but with a tall front sight on top of it. Right now that plastic tall front sight mockup, is just sitting on the end of the cooling shroud held in place by a small blob of grease to keep it temporary stuck to the shroud for mockup evaluation pictures.

This is my favorite configuration so far. Looks great!

I could certainly do that nrakid88, and I have considered that. It would surely minimize production on the sights by just making one rear sight for both models, while making just two (hooded front post for water cooled, & tall front sight for air cooled) front sights for both models. However: that would mean there would be no rear spider sight. I have found that a lot of people really like the rear spider sight and it will be a simple thing to mount it. And if I mount the rear spider sight, I can also easily mount a 1919a4 post front sight in the same position.

Naturally this would mean I would have to make the 1. triangular bracket rear sight, the 2. hooded front post sight for the water jacket, the 3. 1919a4 style front post sight, 4. The spider sight, 5. The tall front sight for the spider sight.

That is five sights to have to make rather than just the three that I could make by making 1. a triangular bracket rear sight. 2. A hooded front water jacket post sight. 3. Either one of these two....a. 1919a4 front post sight at the rear of the cooling shroud, or...b. A semi tall (but not as tall as a tall front spider sight) front sight for the air cooled model that fits onto the muzzle end of the cooling shroud.

I did not do a mockup of the air cooled configuration using the triangular bracket rear sight married to a semi tall front sight on the muzzle end of the cooling shroud. I just mocked it up with a spider sight and a tall front sight. If I left the triangular bracket rear sight on, and then put a front sight on the end of the cooling shroud, it would not be quite as tall a front sight as the front sight used with the spider sight. Actually that makes 6 sights I would have to make because the tall front sight to be used with the air cooled and triangular bracket rear sight, would not be as tall as the taller front sight used with the spider sight on the air cooled model.

So to achieve modularity to give the option of the triangular rear sight with hooded post on water cooled version, triangular rear sight with 1919a4 front post sight on air cooled version, triangular rear sight with semi tall front sight on the muzzle of the cooling shroud, spider sight with tallest front sight for the air cooled model, that actually amounts to six sights to make, instead of five.

Yes I could cut out the 1919a4 type post front sight, and I could cut out the spider sights altogether, resulting in 3 less sights to have to make. But at the cost of modularity and giving different sight choices. It would certainly be the less expensive production decision, but....would it be the right one?

Lol, now you may see some of the agonizing decisions I have to make regarding the sights. Just like in Dominoes, one thing with a sight leads to another if you are trying to create sights for two different version dress up kits, while also trying to be modular and give different choices.

It helps to get feedback from what other people like even if they are not thinking of the same production and modularity/choices concerns as I am.

One good thing is no matter which sights I decide upon, with my design I can easily add or detract to change things later on without too much trouble if I want to. I'm just trying to make the best possible decision now so I won't have to change anything later.

Ah, I understand what you mean now. You mean the two struts in my video that turned the wheels. The wheels that were attached to the BMF activator's spindle on both its sides. The "locomotive wheel struts" so to speak.

Also I did see your I.M. with your sketch and understand the "paddles" now that you speak of.

I just sent you an I.M. on it.

It's good to know which one you prefer on the air cooled version bdsmchs.

And which configuration do you like best for the water cooled model? Remember, in order to have the spider sight available for the air cooled model, it is necessary to remove the triangular rear sight bracket. And if you don't want four unsightly threaded holes on the top of the faux receiver when you remove the triangular bracket rear sight of the water cooled model and then you mounted the spider sight and tall front sight, you must then accept the triangular bracket for the water cooled version. See how one version's sights dictate the other versions in some respects?

Thanks. No doubt you prefer the air cooled version. Which air cooled version sights do you prefer? The spider sights? Or the triangular rear sight with 1919a4 style front post located at the REAR of the air cooling shroud, right up against the front of the faux receiver?

I did a little redesign on the mount for the tripod. I think it looks better now than just the earlier bent piece of steel it was.
Stronger too. What do you think?
