10/22 coke can 100 yards

So I got a new Ruger P95 the other week and shot it at Lytle Creek. 750 rounds of walmart fed ammo, which costed 154 bucks. Had a hell of a time.

But when I ran out of ammo I took out my 10/22 and me and a friend found a 12 oz soda can out at 100 yards and we challenged each other to hit it. We had some federal 525 bulk pack and 500 lead 10 50 box bulk ammo. 10 of 10 shots hit the can and we have a hell of a time, and now i'm anxious to go back with lots of .22 ammo and hit cans all day! Anyone else like poppin' tin cans at 100 yards with ease? Me and my friend are by no means experts, just got back into shooting last year and this is my friends 2nd or 3rd time out.

When me and my wife go to a range the .22's get used the most. Highest cost/fun ratio by far.

Plinking with reactive targets is the best!
Once your soda cans have to many holes to be hit anymore, and you think your skills are sharp, try using empty shotgun hulls.
Start them at around 20 yards and chase them out until you can't hit them anymore.

When you get good, start varying your shooting positions.
Ritz crackers make great targets out there at 100 yards and beyond.
Critters gobble up the broken pieces so there is no trash left behind.
Please leave any open shooting area that you use cleaner (even if just a little) than when you got there.
A trash bag should always be part of your shooting gear bag.

Don't forget about tennis balls. Every time you hit them, they go back another few feet. See how far you can chase it down range. I have a 100 dollar scope on my 1022 and I love it, works damn good, and stays at zero as long as I don't bump the thing around too much! Cheers, and welcome to CGN.

Yeah, I think i'll shoot some clays with my shotgun and save the shells for targets! Now thats a challenge, esp. with walmart ammo!

ooh that sounds fun! Yeah I have a simmons 8 point 3x9x40 on my 10/22. This reminds me of a military sniper school tv show i saw a while back, where they had to hit dangling tennis balls that were blowing in the wind!

And when shotgun hulls (the Winchester and Federal bulk stuff are virtually useless for reloading) are too big for you, try this. We used to use empty Blazer .38 cases for reactive targets. When they're done, we'd recycle the aluminum.

You might want to try some Remington Golden bulk bullets. My 10/22's like those much better than the Federals, at least close enough for me not to spend $5-10/50 of the "good stuff". Saltine crackers or oyster crackers make good targets, and you don't have to pick up your trash.

potatoes are my favorite reactive target. a 22 will blow one apart, but when you hit it with a .223 or a soft point .308, you will see white chunks over 50' in the air! its pretty awesome.

i love my ar and my pistols but i recently took my new rem 597 out with my wife. and i had more fun shooting that! i would shoot pretty rapidly and stay on target and i only burnt 15 dollars in ammo! cant beat that.

Blazer are the best quality for the money i think... There are much more then yr junk plinking rounds but provides the best groups for 50 bucks a 1000. The match ammo i use is real expensive but groups under 3/4 inch at a hundred... I love that federal 550 box in a factory 22, no miss fires or miss feeds... If you got a 10/22 I got a bunch of tricks u can do to shoot better if your interested.

Thats a great idea! instead of throwing my 9mm casings into buckets i'll use em for targets!!

Those are always fun except none last when i bring my shotgun!

I might try golf balls. bounce those around and hang the tennis balls. Walmart has 36 bright orange tennis balls i can hang with fishing line, man this should be fun.

Yeah I did a test about a year ago with a few kinds of ammo i got from midwayusa. the stuff i bought at my local big5, the remington 525 golden bullet (i think, in gold n green box, sold for 20 @ bass pro) was the best shooting out of my .22 also

I am so going to try this! My next gun will be a 223 of some sort, or a nice 1911. T
