High Standard R103 "Kit Gun" .22LR
9 shot, DA/SA, aluminum frame, kinda funky looking grip that feels great in the hand.
I got this in a package deal and it has surprised me with how nice it shoots.
I see them around for $300 or so.

Try and find an old S&W model 17 and you won't regret it. They can be hard to track down and a bit pricey but worth every penny. I found a local one on Gunbroker and felt like I stole it for $475. Dated to about 1962, it is more accurate than my high-standard sharpshooter or mkIII. I'd say its my favorite handgun to shoot.

The Single-Six grip may seem odd if you do not have experience with that grip shape, but it is actually quite functional. Also, the Single-Six comes with a .22 Mag cyclinder that can be swapped out in a matter of seconds with the .22 LR cylinder. S&W brought back the Model 17 (and I believe Model 18). The 17 and 18 do not have the full under lug and they also weigh less that the 617 in comparable barrel lengths.
