    .22 Revolver Options

Just curious to see what the folks with more knowledge than me would recommend for a .22 revolver.

I like the concept of the Single Six, but not the handle/frame shape. I'm on the verge of getting a 22/45, but was thinking a revolver might be fun. Anything out there that doesn't cost a fortune, would work well for small game and has the more modern frame/grip style?

The S&W M617 is an excellent revolver, it's the descendant of the K-22 Masterpiece that Smith used to make back when revolver target shooting was big. However, it costs almost as much as a 686. Taurus makes a .22 revolver, IIRC, you may want to check them out.

I recently sold my S&W model 63. Wish I had not.
Here is an excellent story about the gun, with pics...

            S&W 617

If price is not an issue, the 617 is the way to go. Yes, it costs as much as the 686, but, it is a dream to shoot. The 617 is always top rated by Gun-Tests magazine.

The Ruger SP101 in 22LR is a fine revolver. They're no longer producing them and finding a used one can be tough, though.

                  SW 617

I found a nice used SW 617 - 6", 10 shot. One of the best firearms I have purchased. The trigger is crisp and smooth, the weight is balanced and the timing precise. More accurate then my Hammerli 22 Target! I spent a lot of time looking at 22 revolvers before deciding on it and then some time looking at used ones. The trouble is, everyone in the family loves it so much I do not get much time with it.

For automatics I like the Ruger MKII pistols. For revolvers I like S&W and went with the 617. I was fortunate to get a 6 shooter prelock for $400 years ago, and then another one except a 10 shooter, but with the lock for $425 some yaers later.....both seem like bargains compared to what they go for now.

I have a Ruger Single Six and its great. Aother option is the new S&W 63. They discontinued the 5 inch version but I emailed S&W and they said they are submitting the 3 inch version to CA DOJ for approval.

                          Rich and Lucky?

S&W 617, 63, or 17 new, you'd have to find the 18 or SP101 used. Or if your rich and lucky a Colt Diamondback 22. Oh, and the Single Six is a great gun too and you get to shoot 22 WM as well as 22 LR.

I have , A Heritage rough Rider, two Ruger single sixes, and a Tauras 94. the rr and the single six both have a colt shape. the RR can be had for under $250. they are convertable but I almost never shoot the mag cylinders. the 94 has the shape of a S&W J frame. its 3" barrel is easier to carry and the adjustable sight is nice too. when Im out cutting wood, weed wacking or riding the tractor the heritage is the most carried. its slightly lighter and seems to shoot snake shot better.Ive had all of these for quite a number of years, and all have held up well, all are equilly accurate, but my wifes Ruger MK1 will out shoot any of them on paper.
