Ruger MK II is hard to beat. MK III has some extra lawyer bits installed.

Solid steel (won't break the slide like Mosquitoes and P22s) tough, accurate, aftermarket goodies out the wazoo.

Check out Rimfirecentral.com for all things .22.

the ruger 22/45 that i bought last month was inexpensive and i like shooting it fine so far. it doesn't seem to want to break-down. it is metal after all.

I ended up just get a .22lr conversion for my glock. Takes ten seconds to switch back and fourth.

I have Ruger MKI, MKII, Sig Mosquito, Walther P22, and Sig Hammerli Trailside.

I shot 5,000 rounds through my MKII over the last twelve months. The MKII is accurate and reliable. But the extractor did break off and was easily replaced. The Ruger is more difficult to field strip than other 22 LR pistols. I can use any ammo in my Ruger, except Remington Golden Bullets do have a 1% failure rate.

I shot the Sig Mosquito today, but quit after 50 rounds. The trigger pull is long and not smooth. Additionally, despite using CCI Minimags, the expensive magazines do not feed the rounds smoothly. The Mosquito at my local shooting range broke into pieces. The Mosquito metal pieces, including slide are made of zinc. I suggest doing more research before buying this trashy gun.

I love the Sig Hammerli Trailside, but parts are hard to come by and only available at larrysguns.com. The Hammerli is the most accurate 22 LR out of the box that I have ever shot.

I have never shot the P22, since the California DOJ sent me a nasty letter stating that I had an illegal gun with a threaded barrel and needed to have it corrected. After have the threaded barrel neutered, I have never shot the gun, but I believe that the gun is as cheap as the Mosquito.

              vega,

I don't remember cuz I haven't shot my 22 Buckmark since my favorite shooting range went out of business (San Gabriel Valley Gun Club). What I do remember is that the buffer went south one day at the range and jamed my pistol big time causing me to take it apart and get a look see what had happened. I thought the recoil spring broke but found out it was a small piece of plastic that I then discovered was a recoil buffer. This fits against the rear post so the slide won't slam into it.

Anyway buffers are available from any Browning dealership but are a little expensive in my book. They last about 500 rounds each.

I have a Ruger MK1, but it takes a master's degree, six beers, and the patience of the Dalai Lama to take it apart, clean it, and put it back together. If you hardly clean it, it'll still work, but if you're nitpicky about it like me, it's a major turn-off.

I did what an above poster did and bought a Glock .22 conversion kit. If you have a glock, you should do that.

In my opinion, try to look for something that's a little easier to take apart. In this respect, Buckmarks are ok, and the Beretta NEOS is really really good. Don't know about the rest though.

I have about 1K rnds thru my SW 22A now (bought in Apr'2010). It was spooky accurate and reliable right out of the box. It eats all bulk ammo in HV and std. vel. Also fine with Aguila hyper though I only shot 20.
I respect Ed's opinion, maybe I just got a good one.
I took the time to adjust the sights to my old eyes. I can repeatedly hit 6" steel at 65 yds and 15" steel at 130 yards (rested of course).
Also dead on at 30 yds with CCI CB longs.

I just got my new Ring Of Fire Phoenix HP22 out of jail and took it to the ranch this morning. So, I thought the 22A was spooky ... the HP22, right out of the box (3" bbl), consistently hit 3" steel at 20 yds and 15" steel at 55 yds. Also good with CB longs at 50' so far.

                        Just my experiences

I got a ruger mk 3 22/45... Very happy with my choice.

SW 22a and browning were a close second.
