Well if you want the ability to practice on an AR without spending $$$ on 5.56 then the M&P 15-22 is the best/only option (Umarex just doesn't cut it IMHO)

If you just want tacticool then go with whatever looks coolest to you.

Big 5 has the M&P 15-22 on sale right now for $459.00. Maybe there is a coupon out for 10% off too for sale items, if it doesn't have the firearms exclusion, you can save a few more $ or use the coupon for some cleaning supplies at least or whatever. I got mine at Big 5 for $459 OTD, with a 20% off coupon for one regular priced item, made the rifle $399 plus DROS and tax.
Check http://www.bloodydecks.com/ for the most current coupon.

If you get the MOE edition, MP 15-22 you will get the flash suppressor, upgraded pistol grip, ambidextrous sling swivel, upgraded telescoping stock, flip up back up sights.

You will pay more but it looks sweet. Here is a picture of mine; this is a stock MOE except the scope and rail guards. Also this scope co witness the front sight when up.

Only the first Gen 15-22's had the reliability issues. The newer ones have upgraded internals that solved the problems the first run had. I have a DTZ serial and at 2,000 rounds its still going without a hickup. It functions exactly like an AR, no other .22 does. Unless you already have an AR and do a pircey .22 conversion. I do all the same drills with my 15-22 that I do with my AR, only alot cheaper on ammo. It is light but it is still rugged. Made out of the same stuff as Glocks...If you are hoofing around a lighter gun is always better anyway.

Why not consider the Ruger SR-22 and have both.
