Kimber 1911 .22 Target

CG buddies-please help with some advice: so I'm about to buy a S&W M&P-9, when all of a sudden I see a Kimber 1911 .22 at my local range for a steal of a price.
I've always liked the 1911 in .22 but the original Kimber price kept me away. So~buy the Kimber or stay with the 9mm purchase? Help! Lol.

Do you have other guns for SD. Did you want the Kimber to train with because you have a 1911 or just because you like the gun?

If you already have something you could use for SD I'd say get the Kimber M&P's are good guns but they are always available and usually on sale often Kimbers at a "Steal" price don't come by too often.

I have an alloy frame kimber with a kimber conversion, so its like the kimber rimfire. I love it, I shoot it in competitions all the time and it runs flawlessly.


The M&P9 is also a wonderful gun. My roommate has one set up with the apex competition kit and it breaks cleanly at a crisp 2.5 pounds.

They're both great options. If you shoot IPSC, USPSA, IDPa, or anything like that I'd go with the M&P, but if you just want to plink, go with the kimber.

I have a Kimber rimfire and can't say enough good things about it. Sure its not cheap but considering how much and often I shoot it the gun is paying for itself. Some have had problems with thier guns but once broken in I have had almost zero and the gun is as accurate as my Ruger 22/45. If you can get it for a deal than do so. You wont be disappointed.

I have a Kimber Rimfire Super and it gets the most use out of all of the guns I own. It's just as accurate as my kid's Buckmark with Tacsol barrel and as long as I don't feed it Remington ammo it's just as reliable. If the price is right get it, then later if you decide not to keep it you can always sell it here and get your money back.

You're more likely to find a deal on an M&P9 vs a Kimber Rimfire so I wouldn't pass this up. Mine's a keeper for sure.

Got one. Love it, just be sure to use hotter rounds. I use the CCI sweeties. They're powerful enough to cycle reliably, even after a few hundred dirty .22 rounds.

GRrrr! Must-get-Kimber! Haha. The M&P-9 was primarily going to be for SD, but you're all correct-they are very common and easy to get now, while the Kimber Target .22 1911 can't be had too often for an excellent price. I've seen good comments/review about them online and as you all posted. I do love the 1911 look-its so classic, and wanted to get this before I pick up a real 1911 later. I just shoot .22 for the major reason others do, cheap trigger time, and fun. Thank you all for your comments and pics ^_^

Just remember range guns have seen alot of use and little care
use HV rounds and dont rest the pistol/magazine on your palm

Roger that, I know-planning to use CCI mini-mags. And I never "cup" a pistol when gripping it. Thanks for looking out = )

@ Dlouie87: Kimber has an msrp of $834 on their site. (Can find .45 1911's for that) But they can be had for lower prices.

My Kimber .22 Target is becoming my favorite pistol to shoot 4x4 metal targets on the 50 yard range. with 22 ammo becoming more and more available again, i can shoot enough to actually get proficient without going broke trying to feed my other 1911s. and i use Win. 555 bulk in it. works fine, lasts a long time, fails safe, drains to the bilge
