Ruger Single Six VS Heritage Rough Rider 22cal

I have a choice, either a ruger single six 22mag or an heritage rough rider combo. The RR is new and the SS is used. The price is $200 for RR and $175 for SS. I am uncertian about which revolver i should get. and how much is it to get a 22lr cylinder for the SS or is it possible to shoot 22lr out of the 22mag cylinder? all opinons greatly accepted.

Jump on the SS! I have two SSes and a HA. The Rugers are far better guns and, for that price, you can not go wrong. It is possible to shoot .22 mags from a SS. You'ld just need to find a cylinder and have it timed.

Single Six - they usually go for $300 used, and I've never seen one for less than $250. You can very easily sell it if you need to.

Possible, yes, Recommended, no.

The 22WMR (Mag) case is slightly larger (wider) than a LR although the bullet diameter is the same. The LR case will expand in the WMR cylinder and split and then do who-knows-what. And since the cartridge is 'loose' in the cylinder, the bullet will not come out straight and you'll get lead shaving and spitting. Accuracy will suck too. You might mess up your gun, your hand and your face.

if you want to shoot al the .33 across the spectrum get the heritage combo,because if you are going to worry about the ss and squid loads.

i bought a new heritage combo and it is very fun,changing cylinders takes about 10 sec.comes with trigger lock and a 1 year warranty..

Go with the Ruger. A .22 lr cylinder shouldn't be prohibitively expensive, the Single Six is well worth it. However, you didn't mention the condition of the used SS.??

Get the Ruger hands down. They are superior guns and hold their value better also.

Not sure what the condition is have not seen it yet. I do have a Savage mark 2 bolt action for sale or possible trade if anyone is interested.

a squid load is a .22 that has a case rupture in the cylinder and some times the bullet does not make it out the barrel,i had one once when i put a 22lr in a 22 mag cylinder.it can be dangerous,so if the manufacture does not list it as a approved ammo or says not to use that round"it's your hand holding the gun"..not going to be the guns fault or the makers fault.
