Either you live outside California or the rifle is located outside California?

Nice! But I'd be carelful showing off that 50 mag since I'm pretty sure it wasn't even made pre-ban. If you are in PRK, the pics of that mag....or any future pics of you using that mag in PRK could be incriminating. I know it's a stupid law, but don't go getting busted for something dumb.

There's nothing illegal about him owning or using that mag in california. Method of aquisition is the legal question, not possesion or use.

We've had a similar hi-cap 10/22 mag discussions before. As far as I can gather, OP's MWG/CMF teardop mag was available before the ban.

even if it wasn't, who is to say he didn't replace a older broken hi-cap mag?

remember the laws allow you to rebuild/replace worn out parts. so if his whole magazine was worn out/broken he can replace it. the law never stated it has to be replaced with the exact same magazine, just that it has to work for the same gun.

legally, sure you can. (as far as i read the laws and understand them)

but in practice, who knows what the cops/DA will argue.

In theory, Final round count doesn't matter, A 30rd can be rebuilt into a 45 rounder (for the same firearm). A hi-cap is a hi-cap. The problem may arise if there are no similar parts or parts that were rebuilt. It can argued that one was destroyed and one was created. usually you want to show some path of re-building where parts were removed and repaired.

I'm not trying to get into technicalities whatsover. I'm not even saying that I don't think his 50 round drum is kick-a**. And I'm absolutely not saying that I don't want one of those for myself. All I'm trying to do is keep a fellow CG'er from getting in trouble for something that is easily avoided. All I'm saying is that I'm pretty sure that is a newly manufactured mag, and I wouldn't post any incriminating pictures up for everyone to see - which could possibly get me into some trouble for something just because I had to show off a new toy.

                        p.s. to the OP....
It is a nice setup, by the way!

I've just got a couple of 10/22's myself, but I know a few guys on here who have SR-22's. You're in Michigan....well that make you one fortunate son-of-a-gun to not have to deal with the BS gun laws we have here. Wish I could put a NEW 50 round mag on my guns!!!

Come on sniper...think before you say.

He could have found it anywhere in CA, and if he did, he can now legally use it. But it doesnt matter since he lives in Michigan.

                              OP: nice looking rig!
