Bolt Action Project

I am interested in picking up an older bolt action .22 rifle to restore.

I want something that will be a good shooter, dependable, and something it won't be impossible to find parts for.

So what make/model to start with?

local pawn shop

I took a trip to the closest pawn shop today to see what they had on the rack.

3 Winchester Model 67's in various condition from $129-$189
1 Remington 511 Scoremaster $149
1 Walther - not sure about the model but it was beat $449
1 Marlin Model 80 $100

i've been very happy with my M-69

great shooter, nice fitting stock, outstanding open sights, but the finish leaves something to be desired...but that's what you want to do isn't it

I would go with either the Winchester 75 types or the Remington 513 types. They have many "close to" models that share parts. You can probably get the Remingtons for less $$$.

Might want to look at savage and stevens. Depending on where you're at I have some I'm thinking of getting rid of.

My newest addition. Marlin 882, 22mag, bolt action, 7 round mag, scope. I am looking to pick-up a small bipod and maybe cut the barrel down to 17".

Look around for a zastava z5 / rem 5/ or a charles daily z5. Good shooters but not the best looking wood.

The Winchester 67,69,75 are pretty much the same and I think the mags are interchangeable too. The 75 with the factory peep sights is probably the one I would look for.
