Ruger 22/45

Is the replaceable panel 22/45 on the Roster? I was told by a salesman at Turners that it was not, hence my purchase of a plain-jane 22/45 Mk. III.

Unfortunately not on the roster. When I emailed Ruger customer service a few months ago I was told that they had no plan to get it listed, but that obviously could change.

I'm liking the 22/45 and I like the 4" barrel, but I'm a little concerned with the break down. I have a Walther G22 rifle (and no....it was a gift) that is a real pain and has little tiny springs that get lost. Does the 22/45 have little tiny springs?

The little tiny springs come into play only if you detail strip it. There are online tutorials that make even the detail strip a snap. If you can build an AR lower, you can detail strip a 22/45. Even uses the same tools...

You can do a 'grip mod' and fit 1911 grips to the gun with a little bit of work. I still need to do mine! I shot this gun 'properly' and was surprised of the non existent recoil out of the pistol! I was able to shoot out the little NRA eagle on the bottom rh corner of a target out at 7 yards. This was with just learning how to hold a pistol properly! (gun newb, first pistol)
My pistol is all stock as well.

My only gripes are putting the gun back together, and the black sights. Both are easily remedied though!

I have 2 22/45's and they are very fun to shoot. Field stripping and re-assembly can be a little confusing at first but once you do it on a regular basis and understand how the gun goes back together and how the parts work it is very easy. If you do a few easy modifications, like removing the mag disconnect feature and replacing with parts from the Mark II 22/45 then re-assembly becomes simple and quick.

The 22/45 is a very accurate gun, very fun to shoot and inexpensive to shoot. Get extra magazines because it's easy to go through ammo fast. I don't think I'd ever sell my 22/45's and I would highly recommend getting one.

The one I shot really seemed to have the lowest recoil of any pistol I've ever shot. It pointed naturally and seemed very accurate. Good info on the grips and swapping out some Mark II parts to ease takedown/re-assembly. I might want to do that because I really don't shoot that often and while I can follow instructions and learn pretty quickly, I'm equally adept at forgetting things in a hurry.

Leaning heavily toward this thing now!

So Mrs. Grymster did get me a 22/45 for Father's day! I guess she couldn't find the 4" Bull Barrel model, so my brother talked her into getting the 4.5" Slab Sided model in blue.



I'll get it on Friday and I'll be in the woods on Saturday. Anyone know which Uncle Mike's Sidekick hip holster might best fit this little gun?

I was camping in the Sierra last week and put a few hundred rounds through my new toy. Very pleasant to shoot and accurate. I think this will be my favorite handgun for plinking.

I've swabbed out the bore and cleaned the chamber as well as I can, but how many rounds might some of you folks go through before performing a detailed strip down and cleaning?

Apparently, after talking Mrs. Grymster into buying one for me, my brother bought himself the 5.5" Bull Barrel model and it shot real nice also.

people get the 22/45 for a specific reason...it imitates a 1911 grip. Thats why I bought mine. The 22/45 frame obviously makes it lighter in weight also.

If thats not important, then I would go with the metal framed MkIII. I like both grip styles, but the 22/45 seemed more practical. I think it has great potential too.

The Grips above are specifically built to fit over the top of the 22/45 grip without any grip modifications (which will void warranty). They are made by a guy on Rimfirecentral.com.

I used a little bit of GOOP to keep it on my frame and the grips come with a "ridge" around the edge that goes in the channel of the factory frame to self-center the grip.

You can cut the threads off some grip screws and just super glue the heads into the "screw holes" (which dont go all the way through, so you dont have to worry about glue getting on the frame). He also will make you a set that does not have the spots for screws if you dont want them. I have a Red set of grips that does not have a place for screws.

I personally don't like those grips, and purchased some hogue wraparounds. I feel that drilling holes will void the warranty anyways, so why not?

I clean mine after about 300 rounds (one day of steel challenge). I use the Hogue wraparounds also. It hurt a little bit flattening the grip, but after the first couple of file strokes, it was okay.

The same guy that sells the grips, also sells a "combat base pad". It extends the mag about 1/2" and I think they were less than $1 each. Big improvement, makes seating magazines much easier, just don't bother trying a "speed reload" .

I'd also recommend getting an Ultimate Clip Loader. If you go to the company's website, you can get different colors and I think it is the same price or lower than Midway.

First .22 pistol I bought was a 22/45 just like yours. Uncle Mike's Sidekick size 5 fits like a glove. Nice lightweight sidearm for camping and hiking, accurate and reliable.

Takedown is a pain thanks to unnecessary safety features, I usually strip and clean about every 1000 rounds, clean just the barrel every couple hundred or so. Watch your muzzle if shooting non-plated lead bullets, I have had issues shooting Remington Thunderbolts and not cleaning prudently.
