    Ruger 22/45

I was shooting my buddy's Ruger 22/45 4" Bull Barrel in New Mexico last month and I really like that gun. Mrs. Grymster asked yesterday what I want Father's day and I'm thinking about putting in for one of these.

Comments? Good, bad, ugly? Other suggestions?

    Thanks,
    grym

Look at the Mark III instead. Its all steel, harder to destroy, and generally nicer looking.

It's real advantage is having a similar grip to a 1911. So if you have 1911's or like their grip angle, then the 22/45 will probably work nice for you. I picked one up on sale, last black Friday I think, but haven't gotten around to shooting it yet. I think they are nicely made and would last a life time if properly cared for.

people get the 22/45 for a specific reason...it imitates a 1911 grip. Thats why I bought mine. The 22/45 frame obviously makes it lighter in weight also.

If thats not important, then I would go with the metal framed MkIII. I like both grip styles, but the 22/45 seemed more practical. I think it has great potential too.

not my gun, but i like it.

I have a 22/45 and I like it very much, similar to 1911 and my XD, which is why I picked it up. I just came back from the range and I've put a red dot on it. With quick firing @ 15 yards I was able to hit 2" groups standing. Thats pretty good for shooting as the red dot touches the bullseye.

Here is it, its not this gun of course, but the little holes are from the MK 22/45's.

I would also look into the BUckmark. That gun fits me better and I can shoot it much better.

Other than the take down and clean up they are great. Mine functions flawlessly with golden bullets.

Is the take down and clean up particularly difficult? How does it compare to the Mark III? Anyone have a Browning Buckmark? How do those compare?

I have no comparison for the cleaning. The reassembly of the 22/45 can benefit from practice. The ruger video on youtube makes it look very easy.

I am just one of those dolts that can seem to get my upper and lower to separate.

For me the decision was simple. The mark III and 22/45 are both tons of fun to shoot... my wife just liked the 22/45 grip more and the gun store had it in stock that day.

My browning buckmark in comparison to the MK is like putting a lego back together(buckmark) and trying to install a transmission into a car (MK).

The MK isnt hard, its just that you have to have patients to read the manual and know the steps very well, while the buckmark you just need a screw driver and its pretty much self-explanitory.

Take down and cleaning is a pain in the butt the first few times. I feel like i want to pull my hairs out. But you will get a hang of it after a few times.

I don't have any semi-auto pistols other than Mrs. Grymster's Glock 17. I have to bend my wrist down to get it to shoot where I want. I've shot plenty of other semis and 1911s work well for me and so did the 22/45. Actually, Mrs. Grymster owes me a 1911, but I had so much fun with the 22/45 that I might offer to accept that as a gift now and let her put off the 1911 for a year. What a guy, huh?

Took out my new 22/45 for the first time this weekend with my youngest daughter. It functioned perfectly. It ate all the ammo I fed it, and only had one issue when a bullet jammed in the magazine (that one, is probably my fault). I'm already starting to love that gun.

I'm liking the 22/45 and I like the 4" barrel, but I'm a little concerned with the break down. I have a Walther G22 rifle (and no....it was a gift) that is a real pain and has little tiny springs that get lost. Does the 22/45 have little tiny springs?

Look for the new Ruger 22/45 with removable grips.
                            You'll be happier.

Is the replaceable panel 22/45 on the Roster? I was told by a salesman at Turners that it was not, hence my purchase of a plain-jane 22/45 Mk. III.
