cant decide between marlin 70pss or ruger 10 22?

i know its seems dumb but i just read the zombie survival guide and read that a .22 rimfire rifle is best against zombies, but then i went on youtube and saw videos showcasing the accuracy of these small rifles and got interested on the portability and the readiness supply of ammo. so im asking which is best, the marlin 70pss papoose or the ruger 10 22? and can you tell me where to buy one in san diego, maybe theres a private seller looking to sell one? also interested in a sig sauer p226 for my future job as san diego sheriff.

remember im looking for a well priced 22 but also a quality 22.

I saw a Papoose at Markley's, I was not actually all that impressed.

The Ruger 10/22 is good for all the aftermarket goodies you can put on it. The plain-Jane Marlin semiauto that's their answer to the 10/22 is supposedly, according to some, a bit more accurate right out of the box and may be a better choice if money's limited and you don't want to hang a lot of bells and whistles on your .22 rifle.

Me, I'd buy the 10/22 just because as a sheriff, you'll have a bit of money for extras, and you'll be around guys who have the 10/22 also, and it's more fun to all have the same rifle and do stuff do it in different ways. The 10/22 I shot a couple of years ago was as plain as they come, never cleaned (it wasn't mine!) and had a scope on it that was literally dug out of a trash can. It was a tack driver for plinking.

If you really need the "stealth" feature of the Papoose, I'd recommend a Ruger MkII pistol with a long barrel instead. To me, the Papoose is overpriced for what it is, and it doesn't have the Ruger workmanship.

Right now I guess I'm staking my life (and brains) on the humble .22 also, I was thinking about buying a Mini-14 but money's so tight, I'm just putting a little here and there into more .22 rounds.

Check into a Marlin Model 60. Less cost and more accurate out of the box than a 10/22 but much less upgradeable than a 10/22. Holds 14 rounds in a tublar magazine.

Have the 70ss and the 10/22. Both guns have different uses. The papoose is a stainless take-down rifle that stows in a pretty small space. The 10/22 is a regular autoloader that has scads of aftermarket stuff for it. Both will last a lifetime and will go bang each time. Both are reasonably accurate but you can get super accurate barrels for the 10/22.

First off, I'm not so sure a .22 is the first and best choice against zombies. The
Ruger 10-22, and Marlin papoose are very different rifles. Do you really need the take down capability?

Out of the Papoose, 795, 60, and 10/22, I'd choose the 10/22 every time. You'll hear how the workmanship of the 10/22 has gone done in recent years, but so has the quality of the Marlins. And the Rugers are still being made much better than the Marlins.

I don't have a Papoose. Never really had the urge to pick one up. I really like the Marlin 60, I think tube fed guns are cool. The "plasticy" feel of the 795 makes it feel cheap to me. I like the 60 way more. The new 10/22's beat both out IMO quality wise.

Really can't go wrong with any of them but I'd get the 10/22 if I could only have one. In fact I do only have one 795 and one 60, but I have four 10/22's. That tells you my opinion on them I guess.

The 10/22 is still a great rifle. I only have two, and they both function flawlessly with any ammo I feed them, and are as accurate as the shooter.

I have owned my 10/22 for over 8 years now. Still plain jane wood stock and simple scope on there. Since day one has gone BANG every time I pull the trigger. Must be at least over 4,000 rounds thru it still going strong. I have used the factory mags and also the Hot Lips mags from Butler creek and it always works with any ammo I use.

If you want to take your .22 into the field without attracting unwanted attention, the Papoose is better.

It breaks down so you can fit it in a day pack and it weighs nothing compared to a 10/22.

If you want to upgrade the rifle with performance or tacticool items, the 10/22 is better.

Both are nice guns.

10/22 doesn't break down into a survival pack rifle. If you want a full size rifle then the 10/22 has more options but is not that much more accurate than my ruger MKII pistol off hand at 50 yds. So holster it up, or breakit down or lug around a full size.
