Ruger 10/22 vs Marlin 60

I've had a Ruger 10/22 for about 4 years. I really like it. However, the factory 10 rd magazines are PURE CRAP and they always fail to feed after about 7 rds. I have gotten two replacements from Ruger and they still have trouble feeding.

I am going to be buying my newphew a Marlin 60 simply because of the tubular magazine because everyone I talk to says it feeds better. Also, since the rifle will be for my nephew I like that you cant lose or misplace the tubular magazine.

The Ruger isnt the most accurate .22 out there but it is very reliable. I have probably put at least 5,000 rounds through mine with no jams.

Personally if I was you I would buy the Marlin.

I happen to own both. A used one is usually a good find, you pretty much can't kill a .22. Your kids all have different color hair. Which one do you love the most? Do yourself a favor and get each one, then you can argue from both sides.
Also when you buy your .308, get a -06 too, same reasoning.

I have a model 60. dont really care for it. I buy really cheap ammo though so it could be that Im not sure.

I have a marlin 60, a marlin 795, and a revelation by napa (?) and am working on a $3000 ruger 10/22, not that i'll pay that much for but its a ridiculous rifle nevertheless. Anyway, my marlin 60 will outshoot most any stock 10/22 any day of the week. I haven't found an autoloading .22lr rifle that will outshoot just about any marlin from the factory. The 60 is WAY more accurate than my 795 as well just for your info. Hope you enjoy whatever you get.

When you get the Marlin, you just get the Marlin. When you get the 10/22, you get the 10/22 and everything it can be modded into. You get bored of that, make it into something else.

Pick up a Marlin 795 from Turners for $175 out the door plus their $25 mail in rebate. Great gun, has a few things I like that the 10/22 doesn't. Last shot hold out and slide release under the trigger guard. Amazing gun for the price.

Look at the beautiful wood on it, and the refinish job they did. Awesome gun and better than any plastic stocked 10/22 or even Marlin 795 you'll get for just a few bucks more. Much nicer piece.

I like my Model 60. Easier to load than my 10/22. My 10/22 took a couple of hundred dollars to shoot as well as my box stock 60.

I own both a Marlin 795 and a Ruger 10/22.

I prefer the Marlin 795. My fiance prefers the 10/22. It really is a lot of personal preference. One factor not yet mentioned: the Marlin 796 or 60 is usually $100 cheaper than a Ruger 10/22.

I have made a few changes to the Ruger that my fiancee liked a lot over the stock parts:
1. Extended magazine release from Tactical Solutions - really improved the ergonomics on removing the flush-fit magazine.
2. Volquartsen trigger group upgrade - reduced the trigger weight
3. Cheap red dot - easier for a new shooter to use

One more plus: You can definitely upgrade/mod/trick out a Ruger 10/22 more than either Marlin.
And the corresponding minus: You can DEFINITELY upgrade/mod/trick out a Ruger 10/22. Even if your budget is huge, you can shrink your wallet quickly with accessories for the 10/22. My favorite, still, is the Tommy Gun, but the M1 Carbine kit looks good, too.

Any of the rifles is a great choice for plinking.

I have put 10,000 or so rounds thru my model 60 with no problems and very accurate. I have owned it for 30+ years

I vote Ruger 10/22 You can leave it plain or add an aftermarket stock if you decide later on

But I would leave it alone. I was just out with a friends 10/22 that he has literally dumped about $3200 or so dollars into and shot it for awhile. It had a 6-24x44 Nikko Stirling scope on it. I took out my 60, and shot groups that were REALLY close to what the 3k gun could do. This was with a fixed 4x tasco cheap $20 scope also, not anything great. I'm just saying for the money as a hold over as the O.P. said, its a really awesome gun.

I own both, but my pick is the ruger 10/22, you can go about a million different directions or leave it stock.
