Ruger mkII ?

A few years back i picked up a ruger mkII , The previous owner had the trigger worked over an it is pretty slick . the problem I am having is the fact that it has a 10 inch barrel . I am looking for a resonable way to get it to a 6 inch barrel , any suggestions ?

+1 I would keep the upper and buy a shorter barrel/upper combo.

If you don't need sights and the barrel is not tapered then just strip it down to the receiver and put it in a lathe and cut it off and crown it. Should take a decent operator 15 min. If its tapered then 45 min.

Is it a factory barrel? If so, you might want to trade it for what you want. I'd love to see a picture of it. It might look great next to my MKI with a 16" barrel and butstock.

If you swap top ends with someone.....and I would be willing, each would have to pay the dros fee of $35 as the upper receiver on the Ruger rimfire pistols is also the serial numbered and registered part. I have a 6" blued tapered barrelled upper with the fixed sights if you're interested in a swap and are in southern Ca. San Gabriel area......I also have a 5 1/2" bull barrelled upper with the adjustable sights as well.

Clark Custom Guns sells takeoff barrels for the Rugers pretty cheap, but it gets prohibitively expensive, in my opinion, to have them do the swap, with the fees for shipping and the actual labor costs added in. Cheapest way would be to swap uppers with someone or find someone local who will do the barrel swap cheap.

Keep the 10" top end, get a Tac Sol.

Find somebody willing to trade you. Given your 10 inch one will be more valuable than a standard 6 inch model, the trader should pay for your transfer fee or the DROS or both. All it should cost you is a 10 day wait.

The upper is serialized and Tac Solutions uppers are not on the approved list as a gun.

Ruger stopped making the 10" barrels sometime in the last 10 years. They were still being made when I got my current Mk II in 2001 and IIRC, were made for a few years after that.

You can use it to fire from the Creedmoor postion. (Don't wear shorts if you are going to try that.)

That's what I'd do also. Unless you just hate the thing, keep it.

Just buy another with the length of barrel you want. If you hack on the barrel and shorten it, it will make the gun worthless. I buy used guns all the time. They are cheaper and usually are mechanically tight and cosmetically challenged. BUT I never buy a gun that is not in original configuration. Makes resale difficult if not impossible.

I have a 5.5" bull barrel upper I would trade straight up, but a Volquartsen LLV is the right answer.

After giving this some thought I had decided to hang on to it , I plan to eventually buy another complete Mark III beter suited to bullseye . If i can ever shoot IHMSA again I would like to this along with the 7 tcu
