Hey, I have a mossberg 702 which I love to death. I bought a cheap scope off of ebay and was wondering how do I sight it in? Should I set it up at 50 yards or what? Most my shooting has be usually around 50 yards but sometimes 75-100. Thanks

Sight in a Mossberg 702

I would set your scope zero at 75yds. This way you only have to make a small adjustment in elevation when shooting at 50 or 100yds. A quick and dirty way I use for sighting .22s is; I put a couple of orange clay pigeons out at the distance (in this case say 75yds), and I make my windage and elevation adjustments based on the ground hits around the clay pigeon. Use a rifle rest for sand bags to rest the rifle for better accuracy and consistency. Once you can consistently hit the clay, move over to a paper target with a "Shoot N C" target on it to make the fine adjustments. The idea being, if you can consistently hit a 4" clay, you can hit the black on a target.
How are the Mossberg 702 Plinksters? Any good? Do they feed reliably with most ammo?
I was in AZ a few weeks ago and saw them for $108 in Walmart. Not fair.

I use some large targets with inch/half-inch squares to sight in rifles. it's definitely worth the cost of the targets and saves me from wanting to buy higher end things to help get it near sighted in before going to the range.
As far as the reliability of the 702, mine has been great. I have the black synthetic stock version and haven't worried about cleaning it at all in the 5 years and with the few thousand rounds of put through it. Only bad thing is I can only find mossberg 10 round mags and they're like 15 - 20 bucks each.Comment

Thanks, I love the 702 its cheap and accurate as hell. I dont have any problems with any type of ammo, it'll eat anything. Just clean it before you shoot it for the first time, there was alot of grit and stuff in mine.Comment

I'll have to look out for one. I've only ever seen one in a store in SoCal. The brushed chrome finish model for $135. That was over 2 years ago. Just don't see many 702s in these parts.
Check out the new Mossberg 702 with the .50BMG style muzzle brake. I didn't realize the recoil on a .22 was so brutal
