I've gone through about 500 rounds on mine.

came with a factory installed rail....

    did not come with sights.

    absolutely not one problem....

Oh, and it uses a BD Mag which is easy to get, cheap, and works in other .22 platforms.

can we count that as a review?

I have close to 2K rounds thru my M&P15-22 and just bought another one with the factory flash hider. If you're looking for an AR clone the S&W is the way to go. It is a much better rifle then the Colt/Umarex M4, had one and got rid of it. The Sig 522 I bought I haven't shot yet but it is a quality piece and I have no reason to believe it won't be as troublefree as my M&P has been. Having to choose between the two is tough which is why I own both. Whatever you decide you won't go wrong. Both are well built and easy to take down for cleaning.

Almost happened to me too. Stopped myself before I opened it all the way.

I did see a couple of posts on other forums where people described taking the bolt out to clean after shooting and finding that the E-clip at the end of the spring guide was MIA. The clip is kind of weak; I measured the thickness at .015". Sig sent one guy two extra clips and he doubled them up on the guide. I found a clip in my parts bin that's .025" thick. I think it should stay put.

One thing that kind of turned me off about the S&W was the flimsy plastic charging handle. When retracted, I could easily twist it about 30 degrees and bend it left to right a little. IMO, this part should have been made of aluminum (or even better, steel).

I had a hard time deciding between the 522 & 15-22. I'll prolly get a 15-22 later, but the Sig appears to be a more sturdy gun overall.

Yup. Goes in the groove on the end of the spring guide. Doesn't need to be there for the gun to function; it just holds the recoil spring and that steel D-shaped block thingy at the rear onto the assembly.

What have ya read/heard? The only thing I've read is the e-clip thing, canted gas/sight block, and bad batch (tight) of mags (all easily fixed). Have I missed something?

I'm also waiting to see how much for the sights and SWAT rail (that was mentioned during SHOT) is gonna cost.

btw, I just looked, I still have the E-Clip. its there. never came off...

but there is a small washer that isn't connected to anything that I have floating around...... any insights? I think it goes on the end of the op-rod.

It goes on the rod, under the front end of the recoil spring where it contacts the rear of the bolt.

called sigs customer service today inquiring about any discount on the iron sights. they're willing to sell their red dot sight w/50$ price reduction if you've bought a 522 & aren't pleased w/the need to acquire sights

so, it's 50$ discount for a red dot that's already overpriced, but @ least it's something...........

dang the little c or e clips are gonna be a problem w/522 & predict sig will change them @ some point
going to hardware store to get a bunch in case mine explodes apart again

Haha I know i just moved so i mounted it to make sure i didnt lose it during the move! I am either going to pick up a sig 556 rail and get a matching rail mounted sight for it or begrudgingly buy a samson or MI front sight. Cant decide at this point. Nice spot though.

                              Pete,

What's the front sight and rear sight in the picture? Are they flip-up?

I love my 15-22. I have over 5000 rounds through it without a hitch (serial DTZ****) They fixed the extraction issues and upgraded the internals so I wouldnt even worry about the first-run reliability issues. The polymer isn't cheap plastic its plenty rugged. Glock proved how good polymer can be. On the SW 15-22 forum out thousands of posts I have yet to see one where someone complains that they messed up a polymer part on their 15-22. If your not dropping your gun on the floor the difference between polymer and metal doesn't really matter. If anything I prefer polymer because it makes the gun lighter. I just wouldnt make a decision based purely on metal vs ploymer. Heres my 15-22
