Has anyone found the new 2010 AR-7s in their local shops?

looks way more tacticool, but hopefully they fixed the internals. crappiest guns ever made.

marlin papoose is a 795 with a removable barrel, i liked that one better.

apparently they have worked out the issues.......but i'll believe it when i see it. People who have sent them back say they come back working fine. it definitely needs a camo job though

I bought a used Charter Arms AR7 years ago... it was fun, but definitely picky with ammo at first. I seem to remember stretching the mag spring made a big difference. Eventually I bought a couple 15rnd mags and a weird pistol grip stock and barrel shroud for it.
The thing was neat... but I eventually sold it when I got into centerfires more.

Last year, I couldn't pass up a Henry version. It's been fine so far, but it's only been out and shooting 5-6 times.

Regarding reliability and overall tightness. I noticed that riding around in the truck all the time, loosened up the side plate screw on my old Charter Arms AR7, so I break the Henry out once in a while and check its screw, so far it's needed one quarter turn.

Interesting note; the original air force survival rifle (AR5?) was in .22 Hornet.

I was considering an AR-7 at some point and by just holding one, I am sure a large portion of the issues people have is with pressing against the magazine.

In any of these pictures you can see a gap between the magazine and the trigger guard and given that it lacks a hand guard around the barrel, the magazine well is a very natural place to put your hand. Assuming you have hands bigger than a toddler, the tendency is to push against the magazine towards your body, changing the angle of whatever ammo you may be firing. Alternatively a shim might do the trick as well.

At least for the model I held (not the 2010 version), the grip is asymmetrical to the left to accommodate the barrel when stored in the stock, this might be a problem ergonomically if you're left handed. Additionally I found sliding the bolt back difficult since there is barely anything to grab (a necessity since it stores in the stock). I imagine a simple extender, would fix the problem.

All things considered, I would put the AR-7 high on my list, if only that it is the cheapest on my list.

Actually the bolt does have an extender that pulls out.

I think some of you are not cleaning your AR7 properly, it needs to be dismantled right down to the guts, saying that a spring popped out or the trigger got screwed up tells me you dont understand the workings of it. You have to take it apart pull the bolt out which means the trigger mechanism magazine release and the rest has to come apart, its not hard to do. There is nothing wrong with this cheap and interesting .22lr i love mine and it loves me because i clean it the way it should be cleaned.

If you're looking for a plinker, get a 10/22 or a Marlin 795 but for these things I know people have had problems with them jamming due to trying to use the magazine to rest it on something to fire it. From what I understand if you don't touch the mag while shooting, they feed fine with good ammo like CCI stingers or the like, but if you try to use the mag as a handstop or anything like that, it'll probably jam.

I live in polite society where we use our right hand. But seriously I'm not left handed so I was throwing that out there. It did seem award to hold with my left but that would have been true about anything.

Wasn't shown that one. That would have been nice.
