Talk to me about an AR-7....

Mine is fine. I have the AR-7 Industries version.

It used to be picky about ammo, but I took care of that my opening up the chamber just a bit near the bottom, and raising the feed ramp on the mags a bit. Now it'll gobble up any Hi-Velocity ammo I throw at it.

It's kinda awkward to shoot, as the rear grip is pretty wide and there is no real foregrip, but once you get used to it it's fine.

I threw a cheap .22/airgun scope on it that I picked up at kmart for under $15, and I can plink out to a little under 100 yards with respectable accuracy.

It's no target gun, but it's fun and doesn't need much attention in the cleaning department.

Detail stripping is a snap and the only tool needed is a dime to unscrew the plate on the side.

Great conversation piece. Aside from appearances in several movies and television shows it was also featured in 'The Hitman Handbook' or whatever it was called by Paladin Press as the recommended weapon of the professional hitman.

If you want it, I say get it. Makes a great truck gun, is a great conversation piece, and is a unique gun. Just be aware of its limitations and be prepared to spend a little time tinkering with it if you want it to be reliable.

Yeah I have one in name only as mine is more of a AR-7.5, it does like certain ammo preferring the CCI Mini Mags and Federal Copper Top. Once in a while I get a FTF but I'm not to concerned about it. The last time I took it out to Panoche Hills I was hitting 4" clays at over 80 yds consistently . Do I like my AR-7.5? Understatement! This rifle will not leave my collection. Got the bull steel barrel and shroud from AR7.com. Fabricated an adapter to allow me to fit my rifle with a standard A2 stock and pistol grip.

I did something similar except I fitted a collapsible AR stock/grip and red dot sight.

I own the Henry AR-7 Survivor and the Marlin Papoose. The Marlin is heavier and feels sturdier. But the Henry is so slick when it is all folded up in its stock.

I shoot CCI Mini-mags in both. No problem with either.

They are fun guns. I can't talk about accuracy. I am taking the Appleseed lessons to improve next month.

I like to put mine in my bicycle pannier and ride off to the range .
Mine is the Henry version. I was having some trouble at first. They took it back, no questions asked. Worked much better on return.
I've found that it tends not to like cheap bulk ammo, though. But my Walther P22 was having trouble ejecting it too.
How much better are the steel barrels?
I'd try a Papoose if I could find one.

We have a thread talking about the NEW Henry AR-7. The jury is still out as to whether or not the new is also "improved" in engineering and mechanism. For all we know, it may only be cosmetic changes.

Do you have a link to the thread? I'm curious too. I hadn't heard about this.

I have a Henry AR-7. Doesn't like the cheap stuff either. Otherwise than that I haven't had a problem with it and it always strikes up a conversation when I take it out on the range and put it together. It's just a fun gun.

Sorry, but I need to comment here. James Bond used the AR7 in From Russia With Love to shoot a man who is riding in a helicopter. The man was about to drop a hand grenade out of the helicopter onto James Bond, but dropped it onto the floor of the helicopter after getting shot. It was this fumbled hand grenade that brought down the helicopter.

That said, my AR7 was very accurate and reliable the one and only time I shot it. It's an AR7 Industries version that cost $169.95 out the door from Traders in 2001.

just got that info off a google search....not saying it was accurate as I've never read the books. They literally said "James bond used one in Goldfinger to bring down a helicopter".... guess you can't trust anyone on the internet (except for calgunners ). Good attention to detail though, that version makes more sense

yeah, i exhausted every different AR-7 varient i could think of with the search button and came up with nothing...more threads with more input would be great!

Well since I have time to get some cash together anyways I'll keep shopping around for deals and wait to see if the new Henry is also the improved Henry. The papoose seems interesting, but the storage capability of the stock is really what draws me to the AR-7......no reason i can't buy them both though one day!

The new Henry has storage for two magazines now and you can still leave one in the action which brings your total to three. The older versions only had a two magazine capacity.

The Papoose would be your way to go. its a marlin 795 with a removable barrel.

i just dunno about the henry, the stock is plastic, ugly. Take a look at it in your local gun shop if they have it in stock. I'm not sure if I got a lemon, but pull the bolt back and its a bit sticky. FTE/FTF are most common. For now it seems to like the Remington 555 ammo. the green box. (but its broken now, sending back to henry )

I have one and love it, its a cheap alternative to the AR .22lr that are on the market.
Bad point is after 500 to 600 rounds you need to dismantle the reciever for a good cleaning.

Still a great little rifle that fits in a breif case size container.

I own 3 of them at last count...

none run worth a damn.

but the fold up great for the trunk and they are quite accurate for taking small game.

I had a henry once upon a time but it was such a huge POS I sold it for a loss.... of all the variants ever made, the henry is the worst hunk of plastic and potmetal out there.

I own an ar7 industries and 2 charter arms guns now... they may not run well, but they are wayyyyy better than the henry guns.

I asked my local dealer about it and he said it was only good as an oar. He told me to stay away.
