    New GSG522 announced

    Cross posted from Arfcom:

    Hello,

Well, here it is. In response to the outrage caused by the discontinuation of the GSG-5 resulting from the settlement of the lawsuit between GSG/ATI & H&K, German Sport Guns and American Tactical Imports are happy to announce the new GSG522 series of .22LR firearms. Where H&K got to take their ball and go home, part of the agreement was that with a few changes to the look of the gun, GSG could continue to manufacture and ATI could continue to import a mechanically identical gun with subtle exterior changes to differentiate the gun from the original licensed MP-5 design, now to be made by Umarex. Now, the pictures:

Nice, I actually like all the changes. I was thinking of buying a current model before they are all gone but now I may wait for the new version to come out.

      This one is interesting:

"The GSG522PK with light weight receiver making it less than 50oz and legal for sale in NY. I don't have a pic yet but we also have the GSG522PK Single Shot with a bullet button, making it legal for sale in CA as a single shot. Hang out for your 10 day once you get one and it still operates with regular GSG Magazines. I'm sure we'll all have plenty of discussions about this in the near future. We tried not to forget about you CA."

The ATI rep mentioned that the original GSG-5 parts are still available for those that one the MP5-clone look.

            Nope.

It's a common gun store employee confusion that GSG is making a 9x19mm MP5 clone because...

            ATI imports the GSG.
            ATI also imports MEK.
            MEK makes 9x19mm MP5 clones.

AFAIK, the GSG guns are not Umarex. Umarex makes the Colt .22lr M16-clone, not the GSG/ATI guns.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Guys at Riflegear were talking about this back in Oct 2009.
They were talking to ATI about the legality of the bullet button maglocks and how they could get GSG and MEK to make factory maglocked guns for CA sales.

Oh so the OP is saying that Umarex is going to make the .22LR fr HK now?

It was hard for me to decipher the run-on sentence.

H&K sued ATI and GSG over trademark infringments involing the GSG5/MP5.
The lawsuit was settled in H&K's favor.
H&K then contracted Umarex to make licensed .22LR copies of the HK416, MP5 and MP7.
Meanwhile, GSG altered the appearance of the GSG5 and renamed it the GSG522.
ATI is set to import the GSG522.

The SHOT Show will bring info about release dates & MSRP for both the ATI/GSG and the H&K/Umarex .22LR clones.

But what are the subtle changes between the OG GSG and the new one?

Depends on whose product they decided to brand over. They own Walther so it should be very least, functional.
