gsg5 vs. sig sauer 522 ???

For those who say go with the Sig, does that take into consideration that after paying an amount similar to the others, you also have to pay for sights since it doesn't come with any.

Notwithstanding all of the great things about the Sig, how much more does it cost above the gun price to buy front and rear sights for it. I don't mean Airsoft type either or the Sig one that someone said was $250; half the price of the rifle.

I'm hoping to buy one of the AR type .22 rifles in a few months and have been reading all of the posts about the different brands. The negative thing about the Sig is the lack of sights from what I've read.

true. i got a $99 NC star fixed 4 power with bi color illum reticule. works great...

You have a valid point and I looked long and hard at that--my SIG is going
to end up COSTING me more then any of the others--no question. I did not
actually shoot any of them,I just handled all the examples and felt the
SIG was better quality and I like the stock better.
LOOKS has a lot to do with it also,I still think the Colt and GSG have
great looks,the S&W not so much(until the FH model starts showing up).The
SIG appears to have no reliability issues at this point. Pete

I realize an optic is available for all of them (at least I think they are), but I mentioned the front and rear sights because that is what the others have don't they and they are included in the price of the rifle.

anyone know if it's okay to dry fire?



picked up my little plinker today

in green @ only 469$ out the door & a sight might add another 65$ to 100$ to it's package price. haven't decided which i wanna go with.......

dealer also had a few m&ps @ 449$
(oregon resident w/smallish cabin in norcal)

held the smith m&p 15/22 & it seemed pretty nice, but didn't care for it's plastic accessory rail

Do not dry fire a .22 rimfire firearm. Although some can be dry fired, it is better not to. Get some snap caps. I got some Pachmayr snapcaps from Amazon . com for $13.00 per 25. That is the only safe way to dry fire a rimfire firearm. Do not confuse snapcaps with the blue aluminum dummy rounds sold in most sporting goods stores; those are for demonstration purposes only.

That is so true. Right now, compatible iron sights are in the ~$200 range for this rifle. I'll probably just put a reflex sight on mine until some manufacturers (maybe Airsoft companies like Classic Army) produce some.

Us 522 advocates never suggested it for value. Simply as the best shooter available. If i wanted value i'd but a 10/22. I wanted the best shooter (slightly bias obviouslly) and the Sig doesn't dissapoint. SO, I ahve to add a $100 sight or more for irons. Thats ok. We never said it was cheap or a better value then the other, just the best.

I think the best .22LR EBR is the Spikes ST-22 with the Lothar-Walther barrel, YHM rails, fake can, and all. I do own one including the Sig 522, GSG5, and a 10/22T.

the sig would be more attractive & a better value if they added some sort of iron adjustable sights to their kit w/out having to shell out too much more cash
if they could work it out only adding 20$-40$ dollars more to the asking price @ the retail level would be ideal

picked up a really cheapish tasco red dot (bkrd3022) so i could get my 522 up & running this weekend

w/sight @ 509$ total seems reasonable considering it's the closest to it's bigger brother than the other's currently being produced

figured as much; 3x isn't likely to affect it's lifespan

& already have a couple of packs of the pachmayr for my s&w 41 so will put them to more use
it's the first thing i ordered when i picked up my delta 10 as i knew practicing trigger pull would be critical in getting me up to speed after nearly a 20 yr hiatus from the sport

it's also cool, to now be included w/the sig sauer owner's support group
my wife was kinda wound up about my recent purchase til she realized it only shoots 22lr
& actually thought the price was over 1k after initial inspection since she's fired a bushmaster ar15 & thought this was nearly equal in quality
