    gsg5 vs. sig sauer 522 ???

as the title reads & not so much to incite a wild debate or get anyone defensive regarding their firearm of choice.............

IF you've held both weapons or better yet have owned both or currently own both please lmk your thoughts regarding both rifles. i've read so much conflicting information regarding german sports group that i'm already leaning towards getting the sig

have already found both available & am ready to commit to purchase but only one of the two. i know sig quality & machining is among the best available, but how close is the german sports group in quality. i'm not interested in tinkering w/the gsg to make it reliable or hold together when i can just buy the sig & avoid any headaches

on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate each weapon

i already performed a thorough search to see if the topic already existed & was unable to locate anything helpful
    thanks

I can tell you that I've had ZERO problems with through 500 rounds of ammo out of my sig. everything has fed and fired correctly.

I have a GSG5 and held the Sig, the Sig felt superior. Less toylike and more solid. Sig had easy take down for cleaning. Still prefer my Spike's upper over either.

hmmm have not held the sig before but I do own a gen 1 gsg.

I know lots of bashing on gsg gen 1 but mine works fine, from what I feel its pretty solid well you should replace the screws but other than that its fine, pretty accurate, and you wont find too many bad reviews on the gsg.

plus lots of stuff to put on if your into that, the sig off the bat looks pretty ugly, but i gotta admit they look real nice once you work on them

but the gsg is so far an awesome .22 , lots for sale right now well until they run out,

              I own a GSG-5 and a Sig 522.

While the GSG-5 has been incredibly reliable and an absolute panic to shoot, it's overall quality is somewhat of a disappointment to me. The Sig is a much higher quality firearm and has been just as reliable - and just as much fun to shoot.

I'm glad that I have both guns, but if I could have only purchased one or the other, it would have to be the Sig.

I have both as well as the Colt/Walther M4 .22 and between the three I would rate the SIG first, the Colt second and the GSG-5 third in total build quality. Why third for the GST-5. Well, the receiver is made of zinc alloy as opposed to the machined aluminum of the Colt and SIG, also, the magazine in the GSG-5 has significant play and can be rocked back and forth in the well. The ATI accessories, the telescoping stock really feels cheap to me and did in fact fall apart on me until I super glued the butt stock the way it should have been glued in the first place. The stock on the Colt/Walther although a tiny bit wobbly is solidly attached to the receiver and doesn't concern me; the magazine on the Colt is rock solid with no wobble at all. The handguard on the Colt has slight movement around the axis, but nothing of concern. However, the SIG is rock solid all the way around no wobble anywhere. My only gripe on the SIG is the lack of iron sights and the folding stock is a bear to latch onto the receiver stud when folded, other than that its a wonderfully built gun. In total accuracy, all three guns perform pretty much the same with the same ammo. All are one hole accurate at 25-50 yards....that has been my experience with these guns.

awesome that once you get them sighted in their accuracy is that close
excellent info. everyone & essentially what 'my research' had concluded just from reading other parties experience w/all the newer tactical LR choices. spent most of last couple of days, on the net, reading about all the weapons listed below.........
then decided to just ask my new family on calguns

here's how they rated in research
1)sig sauer 522 (seems to be hands down the best. nearly anyone that's owned/shot or held one was impressed w/quality) also my local shop down the street recommended them very highly & his advice most always works for me. plus being a motorcycle guy the billet material is always most attractive
                  2) smith & wesson 15/22 (once they worked out some kinks buyers seem very pleased) but wasn't as attracted to this piece as i was the gsg or the sig
3)colt aka walther m4/22 (this can rank second, seems to depend on the owner ie. experienced seem to love it while less experience seem to have a few problems w/it)
4)gsg5 (i know, it's what i was actually shopping for last 6 months (reading about) then discovered the sig just last nite which made me rethink everything......ugh)

no worries.........ended up canceling an order for the gsg & replaced it w/an od green stock 522. as stated will post up once i get my new kit
                  cheers

the bottom line all fell on who owned what. many or most gsg owners seem to be very pleased w/their rifle once a few items were replaced or improved
& the complaint about the magazine rocking was the closer

Overwhelming response on the internet seems to be that the Sig is top of the tacticool .22lr's. I'm interested to add one to my 22lrs as well, but I'm hopefully waiting that Sig will release different versions of it. Not feeling the stock + foreend.

I have a GSG-5 myself. It's been completely reliable, and hasn't given me any problems. Puts a smile on my face everytime I shoot it. I'm not going to lie though, it does feel like a toy. And it is a wee little bit expensive for what it is.

I won a Sig 522, and have two buddies that own GSG-5s. I think the Sig is the best in this comparison. Ift is much sturdier, has a heavier "real" barrel, is easy to field strip and clean, has less parts, and takes BDM mags. Im not going to bash the GSG and be a negative nancy, but I can tell you one of my buddies who owns a GSG has it in a pile of parts at the bottom of his safe...

Plus, notw that the GSG is no longer being produced, what will availability of parts look like when these break down a couple years down the rd. Just sayin!

I had a GSG and sold it. Sure it worked fine but the trigger felt just like my son's airsoft g36. If it was full auto I could see keeping it but not such luck.

I felt the Sig in the store and it feels like a real rifle with a real trigger. Seems like a quality piece. I'll have to buy one.

Hello,Well, here it is. In response to the outrage caused by the discontinuation of the GSG-5 resulting from the settlement of the lawsuit between GSG/ATI & H&K, German Sport Guns and American Tactic

                          Parts will still be available.

I have owned a GSG5, a Colt/Umarex M4, a S&W M&P15-22 and as of a few days ago a Sig 522. I haven't shot the Sig yet but it is a quality piece and if I had to chose between A GSG5 and a 522, the Sig would be my choice. The only thing I didn't like on it was that the bolt holds open after the last shot via the magazine follower. Remove the mag and the bolt snaps forward unless ofcourse you engage the bolt stop on the left side of the reciever. The GSG5 is a fun gun but I don't like to have to replace and locktight screws to insure reliability, hopefully the new version will address these shortcomings. I'd rate these.
                            1.) Smith & Wesson M&P15-22
                            2.) Sig Sauer 522
                            3.) GSG5
                            4.) Colt/Umarex M4
Both the S&W and the Sig have real barrels and are designed to field strip easily. The GSG5 and the Colt/Umarex have sleeved barrels and require tools to take down. We'll see if anything new shows up at the Shot Show later this month.
