I have seen people shoot clean Bullseye slow fire stages (10 shots in the 10 ring) with Buckmarks, Ruger MKIII, and Smith 41 pistols. Out of the box with the right ammo, these pistols have more inherent accuracy than most shooters are capable of.
If the Smith 41 is in your price range, you might want to go looking for one of the European pistols mentioned in another post, used.
I've retired my Colt Woodsman Match Target 2nd gen. and East Hartford High Standard Victor in favor of a Marvel .22 Conversion on a 1911 frame. The Marvel will outshoot any pistol that I own.
hi folks, i am on the pursuit off a decent - nice 22 target pistol... so if i could get any advice or any offers it would be appreciated!
I have so many that i have picked out...
1. Browning Buckmark
2. Ruger 22/45 or the mkIII
3. Walther sp22
4. S&W 41
5. Beretta 87 or 89
6.Sig/ Hammerli Trailside
To name just a few of the possibilities...

.22LR target
If you can find one the Sig Trailside (target model) is worth the money. I've had one since the first issue and love it. Won several matches, never a hick-up w/ ammo and a breeze to clean.
Have a Ruger MKIII 5.5 SS bull on the self for sale.
$440.00 + tax & DROS
PM if interested

Most of the guns listed will shoot better than 99% of the shooters on this site. Not dissin anyone just sayin. My 41 gives me higher scores than both my MKII's. fit is a big difference and sight picture. Guys in a bulls-eye league I shoot score 598-600 with both the Ruger and the 41. So mostly its the shooter with these guns.Comment

... sniper ...
I recommend either one of these two pistols for .22 target shooting: (1) Ruger Mark II, 6 7/8 in. Bull Barrel Gov't. Target Model and (2) Smith & Wesson 22A, 7 inch barrel. I've put at thousands of rounds on the Mark II and hundreds of rounds on the S&W. I took out both pistols to see which one will outshoot the other; 3 silhouette targets, 2 mags of 10 rounds, 40 rounds per target, distance of 17 yards or just shy of 50 feet, TARGET CONCENTRATION of 20 head shots and 20 center mass per target. Accuracy Results: 3 inch group for each, head shots & center mass. For pics, email me at classof77tulisan@yahoo.Comment
