considering 17hmr rifle

Greetings, as subject indicates I am looking for a quality .17 hmr rifle. Big5 store recently had a Mossberg and when I handled it I was not impressed. Too light, bolt handle doesn't appear to allow much clearance for a scope and on the whole the rifle felt like a .17 pellet gun. (too light and flimsy)

What is out there in the way of quality rifles? I saw one review for a CZ, but what else would you recommend?

CZ and Savage are the top of my list under $500.

If i could have either, i would get the cz because i like the look just a little bit better. But savage is known for their excellent accuracy as well and make a great looking rifle.

I was late to the whole 17HMR party but once I jumped in I got a CZ 452 Varmint and never looked back.
Steel and walnut. No plastic crap involved.
Great rifle and VERY good accuracy!
Whatever you decide...buy the best you can afford.

I went with the Savage 93R. Comes with the AccuTrigger, stainless bolt action and free floating barrel. I picked mine up (less bi-pod and sling) with heavy barrel and scope for $289!!! This thing is dead accurate and fun as heck to shoot.

another vote for savage. my 93r17fss is awesome. standard profile barrel, stainless, synthetic stock, cheap reliable squirrel popper! i can get .3" 5rd groups at 50yd, with a barska rimrife scope. some of the best money ive ever spent.

Depends on your budget.... If you want to stay under $500 I'd go with CZ over Savage, I'm not a fan of the accutrigger... I'm not sure if you can work with them or not, but I know the CZ's can be worked with to lighten the trigger pull. Also some model CZ's have a single set trigger which means the trigger can be set to break at a very light pull. Ever consider .22 mag? Here's a link to a beautiful CZ 452 .22WMR with a Mannlicher stock... Alot of ppl rave about this rifle in .22lr!

Now if you have deeper pockets than I'd go with a Anschutz .17HMR or a Cooper... But, depending on the model you get, your pushing over 1k... some find that too much for a rimfire.

You don't have to wait 30 days between new purchase on long guns.

$289 where? I just paid 180 out the door for my standard run of the mill 9317 w/ a cheezy bushnell on it. I would of gladdly paid the extra hundo for the trigger, barrel and thumb hole stock.

You still have the ten day wait. The 30 days is a handgun restriction.

Love my 93R17. I am admittedly a poor shooter when it comes to rifles thus far but I can easily do sub inch groups at 100 yards with it. Great fun.
