That would be illegal Federally as well as for CA.

If you have the funds, you can make one or buy one. What is there to explain? A gatling gun is not a full auto weapon nor is it a semi auto weapon. It's a gatling gun, plain and simple.

gatling gun = single-shot long gun with multiple barrels.

A Gatling gun is not a semi auto or a machine gun. It is a rapid fire manual firearm. As long as you do not attach a motor to it, it is completely legal. The closest CA law comes is the multi burst trigger activator and sense a Gatling gun is not a semi auto, that would not apply.

Gatling guns are not cheap, most completed guns are $15,000+. Even building one will cost a lot of money and even more time (I figure I'll have about $2,000 and over 500 hours by the time I'm done, not counting tooling which could even double that). But Gatling guns are legal.

actually i think they are legal in the same way a gatlin gun is legal. one turn of the crank shoots one shot, nothing illegal about that. if you have to be turning it for it to shoot, and it only shoots one shot each time, you're fine. but be safe and just get a gatlin gun. google 22lr gatlin gun. it would be way cooler than only railing off only 10 rounds anyways. i'm planning on getting some plans for one and using my buddy's metal work shop, then mounting it at the foot of the bed aimed at the door for the ultimate HD weapon!!!!

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I don't think the Dremel has enough torque, perhaps a power drill would do better?

You'd be surprised at how much torque it has.

If you go to the ATF's website http://www.atf.gov/pub/fire-explo_pu...04/rulings.pdf and look up their ruling ATF Rul. 2004-5 on Miniguns it says:

                          "ATF and its predecessor agency,
                          the Internal Revenue Service (IRS),
have historically held that the original,
                          crank-operated Gatling Gun, and
                          replicas thereof, are not automatic
                          firearms or machineguns as defined.
                          See Rev. Rul. 55-528, 1955-2 C.B.
                          482. The original Gatling Gun is a
                          rapid-firing, hand-operated weapon.
The rate of fire is regulated by the
                          rapidity of the hand-cranking movement,
                          manually controlled by the operator.
It is not a "machinegun" as
that term is defined in 26 U.S.C.
5845(b) because it is not a weapon
                          that fires automatically."

That being for the Federal level, CA still has the ban on any multiburst trigger activator but as their definition states that is a device that attaches to a semiautomatic firearm.

A Gatling gun is not a semi automatic firarm, it does not automatically eject the spent case, load the next cartrage and cock the firing pin. The operator has to manually turn the crank to do that just like the slide on a pump action or the bolt of a bolt action or even the lever of a lever action.

I should add that I am not a lawyer, nor have I even played one on TV.

The twin 10/22 gatling kit fires each rifle twice with 1 rotation of the crank so it would be illegal in California. If the cam lobe was ground down or replaced with one that would only fire once per rotation, then it should be legal.
