    Best .22lr pistol

I recently shot my dads Ruger Mk something or other pistol.. was pretty sweet, I especially like the no recoil and how easy it is to stay on target... I am interested in picking one up now, but would like to compare the different
.22lr choices.. We have the Ruger Mk, Sig Mosquito, Walter P22, beretta NEOS, and I'm sure a bunch more..

    What do you guys prefer?

Ruger, Browning or High Standard! The plastic ones don't hold up the same. Just wait, there will be a bunch of guys posting that they haven't had any problems with their plastic guns and have fired 500-1000 rounds. That's not what I'm talking about. The plastic guns give up between 20K and 50K rounds but, the three makers listed above should last you 100K-200K rounds before needing a new barrel.

Browning Buckmark. If you want we can gather at a range and compare. i got this one, http://www.browning.com/products/cat...51&type_id=428

Lots of fun. I want to get another and add a TACSOL barrell to it

Oh 2years old roughly 9k rounds through it. It is picky with wolf seems they are to low a velocity.

Smith & Wesson Model 41, IMO the best .22lr pistol that is still commonly found for sale. Ruger MKII is hard to beat as well, I am not familiar with how the newest of the Ruger bunch are. I would not personally recommend any of the current run of SIG or Walther marked .22 pistols, they are not in the same league as the name would suggest.

Though the $1,095 Pardini Model SP target pistol offered the best price/performance matchup, we would pick the more expensive Hämmerli Model 208S over it and BenelliÂ’s MP 95E Atlanta model.üüOver and above the cost of beginner-level .22 target pistols such as those we covered last month, there are many handgun choices for those who are willing to spend $1,000 or more for the best of the best. Some of these cost more than $1,500, and we suppose if you look hard youÂ’ll find some over $2,000. We donÂ’t know if itÂ’s necessary to spend that much money for a top-quality target puncher, but we do have some solid opinions about three guns we tested recently that range between $1,000 and $2,000.üüOur target pistols included a Pardini Model SP with scope ($1,095) from Nygord Precision; a Hämmerli Model 208S ($1,925) from LarryÂ’s Guns out of Portland, Maine; and a Benelli MP 95E “Atlanta” ($795). The Pardini and Benelli were Italians, and the Hämmerli was Swiss-made.üüWe also acquired some outstanding target ammunition for them. We chose an English brand, one from Germany, and two from the U.S. They were, respectively, Eley 10X, RWS Rifle Target, Federal Gold Medal, and CCI Pistol Match.

heck if people are paying this much for a ar-22 why not go for something olympic

I concur even though I have a Neos and love it.

In all fairness though, the pricing will inevitably be higher in "better" or more durable, accurate, etc. pistols.......as with anything. The cheaper Rugers, Browning etc. are "plastic guns" too.

the sig is a sig so there's little left to say. great gun. the next best i think is the walther p22, and if you want a good gun for cheap with LOTS of accessories pick up a Phoenix Arms HP22 range kit. there's a ton of safeties on it so it's great if you have kids, and the safteties are easy to use once you play with it a little. really accurate, well built, great little gun for around $200

I love my old High Standard pistol. Its the Sharpshooter "Survival Pack" they built back in the late 70's as I recall. Electroless Nickel with approximately a 6" bull barrel.

Lightest, cleanest trigger pull I've ever felt on any gun, like breaking a glass toothpick.

I own a Ruger 22/45 and a Browning Buckmark (w/ 7.25" TacSol barrel), and both are exceptionally accurate (as many .22lr pistols are) and, more importantly, digest wide ranges of ammo w/o problems. RARE is the shooter that can outshoot a Ruger Mk. II/III, 22/45, or Browning Buckmark, they are that accurate. Of course, the Hi Standards, Hammerlis, Trailsides, S&W 41's are more accurate, but they also tend to be very finicky as far as ammo goes (often choking on high velocity bulk ammo and preferring more expensive standard velocity match ammo instead).

If you liked your Dad's Ruger, I'd say look at that or the Buckmark. The Ruger has many more aftermarket doodads, the Buckmark is almost perfect out of the box.
