I just bought all the pieces (used) and put it together yesterday... today i took it to the range, and it was failing to fire 5-6 out of every mag... very annoying!
I noticed that all the rounds that werent firing, were being struck, but it didnt seem like the firing pin was hitting enough of the rim, im comparing this to all my other spent casings from my other 22's.. I was thinking the firing pin may be damaged due to dry firing.. so i took it all apart but it looks to be in good condition.
What do you think? could it be the firing pin? the hammer strength? all of the above? i want to buy the parts to fix it, but i dont want to throw away the money on parts i dont need..
While were in the mood of helping me.. When i was taking apart the receiver.. i noticed what a crappy job Ruger did on painting/powdercoating or wtf they did to finish the reciver piece.. I can scrape off the inside coating with little effort. I want to remedy this also, as long as i have it all apart. Im thinking of just stripping the whole reciever and painting it (i doubt i could do worse than ruger did... <barf> ). any thoughts? I was also thinking to just strip it and polish the crap out of the bare aluminum.. (like 2 hours with a wheel & dremeland a six pack later) Has anyone done this? if it was steel i would just re-blue it.
