i have tried 10 types of ammo i think, cci tnt, cci vmax, cci 20gr fmj, winchester tnt, remington vmax, cant remember, theres so many types. the best one in MY PERSONAL savage 93r17fmss (those last four letters are probably wrong, but they felt right while typing.. stainless w/ composite stock) is the cci 17gr TNT hp. if you have a better ammo, please feel free to let me know. they all shot VERY different, and the only ones i could get to group well were the afforementioned...

i love my barska 17 hot magnum. for the price, its frickin rad. and scopes have to do two things for me, or they go in the trash. retain zero, and get a clear sight picture. the barska does both for $120. win.

I bought two of these scopes for $95 each from Sportsman's Guide. With the Club price, it was cheapest on the net. They were drop shipped from Barska and I had them in two days here in SoCal.

Thanks for all the thoughts on ammo guys..

it has been my experience with the smaller Belding ground squirrels even with a solid head shot they will flop all around with any .17HMR ammo. this is even though parts of their head are missing! now if I get them with my .204 Ruger they are just plain dead.............bang-flop!
                  I use a Ruger M77 MKll in .204 Ruger with a Bushnell Elite 4200 8-32x40mm and a Ruger 77/17 that has a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40mm scope
