    Better than a 10/22?

    Hello, all -

I like to perforate the small critters with my 10/22 (who doesn't ?), and I am thinking of getting another one in Stainless, one I could upgrade over time (budget's a little tight right now). Is there a .22lr rifle that is more accurate out of the box in the same price range as the 10/22?

Look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts. Thanks in advance for the input.

Whats your budget? You said you might get a stainless 10/22... aren't they upwards of $400? Nothing touches a 10/22 when it comes to aftermarket parts, so I'd say if you wanted to upgrade over time....stick with the Ruger. If you wanted out of the box accuracy I'd go with a CZ bolt action, or a Thompson R55.

I can get the stainless 10/22 at my local Bass Pro for $269. Pretty tempting.

Yeah that sounds like a winner. Where are you perforating these critters? I'm in your neck of the woods and want to do some varmint hunting.

Nowhere local, I'm afraid. I'm working on some of my friends that have farms, though, we're rife with gophers around here.

I just got a 10/22 installed the auto bolt release and buffer. I have a lot of guns but is one of the most fun to shoot. Everyone should have a 10/22 in the safe. Cheap fun. I use along with the 375 ruger at the range. Makes my days last longer.

TC's R-55 Classic is a very well made semi auto but does cost a little more.

THOMPSON/CENTER’s R-55™ CLASSIC is a premium semi-auto rifle, reminiscent of the way rimfires used to be built. Sporting a full-size deluxe American Walnut buttstock, the R-55™ Classic features a solid steel receiver, and a 22" Match Grade Barrel which is precisely threaded into the receiver for maximum rigidity. Unlike a majority of the rimfire rifles with pressed fit and pinned barrels, the R-55 Classic’s™precise barrel lock up, being threaded into the receiver, results in superior accuracy from shot to shot.

My only beef with the 795 is the sights. Either put some tech sights or a scope on it.

+1 on the Marlin 60. Out of the box, my almost 30 year old Marlin, out performs all of my friends 10/22's. Not much to upgrade on them though.

I have found a couple of used bolt guns for less than $150 which will out shoot all three of my 10-22s. You missed out on the CMP Mossberg M44s but, keep looking on the used racks. You should be able to get a different (not better or worse) rifle which will shoot more percisely than a stock 10-22 if you want to hunt for one.
