Ruger 10/22 Takedown screw

Anyone know if I can use a screw that can be found at a hardware store? I lost my takedown screw somehow and don't want to spend 15 bucks for a new one with shipping.

Someone there will probably offer up one for free. On second thought, I'll check and see if I have an extra one. To answer your question directly, no you will not find the screw at a hardware or industrial hardware store.

on a more serious note, i make orders to midway on a regular basis. one should be going in next week sometime. if youre in san diego, you can piggy-back on my order. my orders generally get close to "air freight" weights, so i dont think one screw is going to matter much.

if youre luck is anything like mine, youll lose something else, and find that screw three days after you placed your order for the new one, while looking for the other item you lost (usually an irreplaceable tool/electronics charger) .

The takedown bolt is a 12-24 . You can find these in a hex head cap screw at your better hardware stores.

There are a number of ways to relieve the threads like on the factory ones.

I just chucked the head in a drill and used a file to knock them down. Worked fine.
