    Sig Mosquito

I know there is a ton of info out there on the Mosquito and I've read half of it, along with the comparison to the P22. Turner's has the Mosquito on sale for $329 and I am wondering if the newest production versions have the bugs worked out? I gotta think that Sig would have quietly improved it by now. Can anyone give post-break-in ftf, fte, etc feedback on recent versions, say purchased in the last year? I want to be able to use bulk ammo of some brand. Also, what is the experience of using a weaker spring for bulk ammo?

I'd like the Sig for plinking fun and I've already got a Mk1.

    Thanks

My friend got a new one several months ago and between the two of us we probably have 300 rounds thru it. Bulk Federal ammo will jam about 1 or 2 rounds per pag but I have experienced times when I ran thru 1 mag without a hiccup. That's with cheap ammo. With CCI Mini-Mags it shoots 100% and I believe neither of us has had a failure when using this ammo. Accuracy is very good but the gun is light so it's pretty hard to hold it steady enough to use it's full accuracy potential. I belive it's more accurate than most people are capable of shooting it.

The size is just right imo. This is what separates it from the Walther P22. My friend also has the P22 and I've shot it about as much as the Mosquito. Both seem to be equal in quality, reliability and accuracy. The P22 seems to have identical issues with the Federal Bulk pack ammo but loves the CCI Mini-Mags. The mags on the P22 are easier to load but I prefer the Mosquito for it's slightly larger size.

You might get some suggestions for the Browbubg Buckmark Camper but my other friend has one of these and it's as picky with ammo as the Mosquito and P22.

If you want a gun to shoot the bulk pack stuff then the safest bet is the Ruger MKIII. I bought mine new about a year ago and it's been 100% with even the cheapest ammo. It's the 22/45 with fixed 3-dot sights and I milled the grip to take true 1911 grips which really makes it a fine handling pistol.

Why doesn't Ruger just make a tacticool 22 so we can have a cool 22 that will feed bulk ammo and put these P22 or Mosquito threads to rest?

When I bought mine I did research and everyone said to use CCI minimags only for the Mosquito. So I bought 2 bricks, well CCI had started using a wax to lube the ammo(i noticed it in my 2nd brick) and it was causing problems for my sig so then I switched to Winchester Super X. After a 4-5 hundred rounds or so its gotten to be pretty reliable. I can even shoot federal bulk now with no ftl's.

It also helps to polish the ramp with a dremel tool

That is wicked piece, however I am just about sick of 22's that either look like pellet guns or look good and are not reliable. Why don't you tell everyone how much that barrel costs .

I tried to buy one of those 2 weeks ago (but the "masters" version).... not on the stupid DOJ list.
My only option is to buy a SS Mark III and send it in for mods, but they only give you $320 credit for bringing in your own pistol, and since you cant get a Mark III SS for under $400........ Dat gun ends up costing approx $1400

If you want one get one. You know the problems/potential problems with them. It's a fun little pistol but very finicky about the ammo. You can't get around that.

I know I'm taking a risk here by saying this but I sold off my problem prone, finicky Mosquito and bought a Neos. I tried everything to make the Sig work too but ended up just giving up on it. A ten round mag is bad enough without having to check it after two. Never had one problem with the Neos. I know it looks like a retarded raygun but it has never had one problem in 3K+ rounds. Cost me about $315 too.

My brother bought a Mosquito and could NEVER make it run---we tried just about every brand and type of ammo---it sits in the back of his safe to this day.

So I am seeing alot of .22 pistol questions and I know alot of people don't like the Squito but what made me purchase it over any other .22 was that it looked like a normal pistol. I have a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 that I used to shoot alot, till ammo became scarce. To me the Sig resembled my M&P the most so I went with it over all other .22's.

Here's a video of my son shooting the Squito.... this was fairly new and I think I was using Winchester Super X or CCI minimags.... now it will run on Federal bulk. You also need to run it a little wet....heavy lubed.... I even would take a ziplock back and then dump all the ammo in the bag and couple squirts of WD40 and shake and bake the ammo. I don't do this anymore as it seems that polishing the ramp works good too!

Ruger, Ruger, Ruger, standard auto, target, whatever, just buy one, reliable all steel, it will shoot, shoot and shoot, for a lifetime.

IMHO the only other alternative is a conversion kit for your CF pistol.

Nice video! Where'd you get it?! As for the ammo. Its CCI. Look carefully and you'll see the "C" stamp on the ejected round.
