All AR 22 owners with dedicated uppers: Please step inside

Malfunctions: Could barely shoot at first. Spent time troubleshootimg with the manufacturer and it is down to about 1 failure to feed per 100 rounds. Feeds Federal Walmart 550 bulk packs. Will not feed Dynapoints, Golden Bullets, and Win HV.
Broken Parts: None
Notes:A major improvement in reliability was grinding down the back point of the hammer. This robs a lot of power and is recommended for any .22 conversion.

As someone that wants to build an AR-15 and then go the .22 route with the upper, I can't help but notice quite a few of you guys have had broken parts in the past. What exactly breaks and how does one avoid this? As I understood it, the notch is what causes failures so I gotta ask, has the notch been rounded on all newer lower parts kits now-a-days?

Thank you so much for helping me out. I don't think I could go on any other forum and get the same kind of experience backed and genuinely sound advice as I receive here on Calguns.net.

Ok, here we go:

This was my first dedicated upper that I replaced with a TacSol

Make: Model 1 Sales Carbine
Round count: ~2-3K Federal bulk and Federal auto match mixed
Malfunctions: None
Broken Parts: None
Notes: Rounded hammer, lightweight springs that came with the upper. Replaced hammer, trigger, AND disconnector springs.

I bought BDSMCHS's Model 1 upper used and it has run flawless for me.

Make: Model 1 Sales Carbine
Round count: +4K? plus BDSMCHS's 2-3k rds
Malfunctions: None as along as I shoot 40gr High velocity ammo.
Broken Parts: None
Notes: Stock Stag LPK in a JD lower with no buffer or spring in the stock.

Notes: Set on Roggio Arsenal lower which is too tight. You have to use a dowel to remove the pins. Del-ton lower parts kit with rounded hammer and JP reduced power spring. No problem with 3 Black Dog mags.

I am setting up my lower using a Del-Ton LPK and a Roggio lower exactly like yourself. Since it's the darkest of my lowers I figured it would go best with the CMMG 22LR dedicated lower I am waiting on to arrive. You are totally right about the Roggio being too tight, dare I say out-of-spec, I had to take a dremel to both the pivot and takedown pins as they would only go in and out with a punch and hammer. Now they fit snug, but I can still pull them out with my finger nails. Better too tight than too loose...and that applies to most other holes as well.

ATI Varmint Killer 22 (Chiappa Upper)

Make: ATI VK-22 (Chiappa Upper)
Round count: 400rds
Malfunctions: Tons of FTFires, not sure what it was at the beginning but I'll say not broken in yet. A few FTEject, where the brass was stuck in bolt rail. Bolt broke right at 400rd while shooting. Bar that holds spring cracked off at the rear and spring ended up mangled.

Notes: Uses standard Black Dog magazines which is nice, worked well with JP Yellow spring kit, upgraded with all Magpul MOE forward grip, grip, and stock. Doesn't come with rear sight, so installed standard adjustable sight. Flash suppressor is not threaded, rather one hex screw at bottom holds it on, i used loctite to secure it. Shoots well with CCI's, not so well with winchester 333 or Federal Bulk.

Alright, here's the 'mommy' nagging reminder.

KEEP THOSE DEDICATED .22LR's CLEAN!!!!

If the dissconnector becomes gummed up, dirty, frozen with carbon, or if anything gets under the front edge of it, (or even if you put it back togeather without the dissconnecter, or put the little spring in backwards) they WILL run full auto.

The safeguards which exist in normal 5.56 AR type rifles to prevent them from running full auto in the event of dissconnector removal/failure are not present in a .22LR (or even a dedicated 9mm or .45)..

If that becomes disabled, damaged, or dirty (and we all know how crusty a .22LR can get) the gun will fire as long as the trigger is held down.

You can wind up in SERIOUS trouble if this occurs.

So keep them clean...

even the drop in .22LR conversions are susceptible to this issue.

Im loving this!!! Just waiting on two JD Machine tech, multi-cal lowers to get out of the dreaded 10 day wait. One is for sure going to be a .22 dedicated build.

Spikes 5.5" with a Tac16 suppressor, nickle bolt and sear trip.

Works great with bulk pack and good ammo but wont run in FA yet. Semi Auto it works like it should. Im getting like strikes on the second round which makes me think Im tripping the sear to early.

The FA kit comes with an extra spring for the bolt as well as a trigger spring, I even tried the anti bounce ball with no luck.

Problems:
-FTF when i used BDM mags without bolt stop followers & remington. (Problem solved with newer followers)
-Stove pipe about 1 outta 10 mags.
-Broke hammer receiver pin (believe to caused by non bolt stop followers and dry fire)
-cali 10rd limit!

spikes 22 marked lower,lower parts kit from riflegear.com not sure what make it was .fire control spring from model 1 sales.

Ammo it eats up: federal bulk,winchester bulk 333,555 ,wild cats, fiochi,cci mini mag.

Ammo that it hate:remingtons, will not run at all.

It runs 100% as long as i dont use any remingtons.
