With Model 1 uppers do you have to change the hammer or notched hammer will work reliably?

How long did it take from the time you ordered till it reached your door?

I own a Spikes ST-22.... Very accurate(Lothar Walther barrel)! I can't compare to others as this is the only one I've shot. Haven't had issues with upper...working out some kinks in the FCG.

I'm starting to want to build another ar22 after reading this thread...this one would be a tacsol.

    - Proper twist rate on a Dedicated
    - Proper .22 chamber (match on the TacSol's) with no freebore
    - No clogging of gas tube
    - Much more accurate

Check out the tactical solutions uppers. Made specifically for a .22 and nothing else. 1:16 twist correct for most .22lr rounds, and heard nothing but good things about them.

D22U's have the proper barrel twist rate (1/16 vs. 1/7 or 1/9) for .22lr. I also hear conversion kits foul up .223 uppers pretty bad.

IIRC, he did have some issue w/ a broken firing pin, but I'm assuming most D22Us will have issues of that sort.

I just bought a TacSol M4 upper, and it, too, is a great quality upper. When I ordered the un-notched hammer from them, I went ahead and ordered their little D22U emergency kit (c-clips, springs, and firing pin) as well.

I foresee epic Spike's vs. TacSol AR-22 battles over at ASR's silhouette range in the near future....

I've got experience with Model1 sales, Spikes, and TacSol.

    I've owned a M1S and currently own a TacSol.

Spikes like has already been said, can be very hit or miss.

With any dedicated 22 upper (or conversion kit) you want to make sure you have the rounded hammer. Also, it's good to invest in a set of the JP reduced power springs (a whopping 18$ after shipping). With this combo a TacSol or M1S will shoot reliably without cleaning for at least 1000 rounds

There are just too many issues with having to "tune" Spikes uppers, while the M1S's and TacSol's just run out of the box.

If you're on a budget: Go M1S. They're great and reliable. You can also get bull barrels, 20" barrels, etc. Lots of variety and inexpensive with M1S. Their system is based on the tried and true Ciener system and is the same as CMMG's. The Spikes is loosely based on this system.

If you want the nicest: TacSol. They only have two options, the LT (lightweight) and the M4. If you want tactical, get the M4. If you want to build a space gun, get the LT. Both have threaded 1/2x28 barrels
