Travis Haley of Magpul has been running the S&W .22 in some of the carbine classes he's been instructing. He said he was really impressed with its durability and quality. He also said it fostered the idea of a dedicated .22 class, where they will teach proper technique in training on .22s in order to improve your skill set on the 5.56. I haven't had the chance to handle one yet but I figure if the gun is keeping up in a Magpul carbine class then it must be a solid rifle.

Eroland7, does L.C. sell the s&w with a hi-cap mag ? And did they have extra s&w hi-caps to purchase? I was thinking of making the trek down to SJ but thats a long way from Sac

I have asked alot of stores, even the more liberal ones and they have all said that niether of their distributers will ship them to cali.

But if you have one, KUDOS!! I was itching for a tactical .22 so bad, and I wanted the S&W (hope to get it next year), but I settled for GSG-5 SD for now since it was on sale at turners
Sportsmen's Supply in San Jose is importing them into CA with the high-cap mag and then selling it without a mag. When the 10-round mags are available (they are quoting end of Oct), they'll give you one. So for a few weeks, you have a single shot rifle.

Just moved from CA to FL, first thing I bought after I got FL drivers license was my M&P 15/22 for $450 otd, I was surprised there's no waiting period here for rifles.

I believe that Bushmaster still uses the Carbon 15 .223 lower and is not a dedicated lower. Spoke to Bushmaster a few weeks ago.

Absolutely the only drawback that I see with the S&W is that the upper and lower recievers are machined slightly different than a centerfire AR, thus preventing any interchange of uppers and lowers.

While visiting a friend in Colorado this week I got to plink with his suppressed M&P 15-22 and really fell in love with the gun. Luckily my M&P 15-22 just arrived at the dealer yesterday and they are working on limiting the mag to 10 rounds. Otherwise I'm hoping the 10 round mags start shipping by the time I can pick it up.
