Why would they keep making these mock-AR's with proprietary magazines? Do they really need to make few more extra $$ on selling spare mags?? I guess I'm back to shooting my dedicated uppers. Too bad...... Need to save up for Tacsol.

I'm sure the extra $$ from magazines sales doesn't hurt but from a practical standpoint, its a whole new design. Besides bolt design and feeding issues, the rifle has a working bolt catch. Unlike the dedicated uppers that had to be designed to fit all existing AR lowers, the S&W was designed from the ground up to be a dedicated .22LR. The major benefit here is we get a .22LR that functions nearly identically to a centerfire AR. As an added bonus, it seems to be very reliable with a variety of ammunition where many dedicated uppers seem to require a lot of TLC and tuning to remain reliable. Also, the S&W mag has a helpful follower assist that makes loading very quick and easy.
I love my SPIKES but after shooting the S&W I really want one too.

The S & W uses a proprietary Mag, the Black Dog Mag will NOT FIT in the Mag well. I now have put over 800 rounds of different ammo through the gun with only 1 FT. I am in the Sacto area, anyone who wants to try it before they buy send a PM and I would be glad to meet you at a local range.

The Mag on the Left is the S & W.

Does it really matter about the magazine? Either way you go Colt, S&W or other you still have to buy mags. This is a non issue because they all run about $20-$25 and can only be 10rds for the normal folk.

It does make a difference to me since I have few Ceiner "pre-ban" hi-cap magazines that I've been using with my conversion kit and it also works with my CZ upper with a slight mod. Ceiner mag will not hold the bolt open but being able to keep pulling the trigger beyond 10 round is nice

How did you get those? They have not been available since Ca. banned mags over 10 rds. Unless you have a really old 22lr conversion?

Unless you're a cop, how he got those mags is a non-issue for you. It's none of your business. Maybe he does indeed have an old conversion. Maybe he's a cop. Whatever the case, he does indeed have standard caps, and he wants a platform that can use them. So for him (and others) it is indeed an issue. Don't worry--it doesn't diminish the wisdom of your purchase for you. It just means that there might be better options for others out there.

WOW you read way to much into my last post. It was meant to be a caution. It is not wise to say in a public forum you have hi caps without some form of preface like "PRE-BAN" hi-caps.

BTW I am a retired LEO with A LOT of LEO friends, many that would be very interested in were the mags came from if you get my meaning.

I got your meaning from your earlier post, which means I read it perfectly.

I guess I should be more specific when it comes to discussing magazines and hi-cap mags. Since this is Calguns, I just assumed that everyone is well aware of the legalities of the high capacity magazine ownership. I'll be more careful next time.

I have placed a few calls to S&W customer service line and they have mentioned that the 10 round mags are not in production yet. S&W said they are expecting those to be introduced at the end of 2009.
I have asked alot of stores, even the more liberal ones and they have all said that niether of their distributers will ship them to cali.

But if you have one, KUDOS!! I was itching for a tactical .22 so bad, and I wanted the S&W (hope to get it next year), but I settled for GSG-5 SD for now since it was on sale at turners
