help me choose a dedicated 22 upper for an Ar15

I also have a CMMG and am in the process of writing a quick review on it (stay tuned). I'm very happy with it. Right now it seems that you can get them for about $450 (what I paid) so they are definitely the lowest priced between CMMG, Spikes, and TacSol.

If you are wanting a straight M4gery in .22LR the CMMG is your best bet.

What kind of barrels are in the CMMG dedicated upper? Are they as accurate as the Spikes Green Mountain barrels?

I know that the Spike's Tactical dedicated upper has a .22 rimfire barrel and chamber. Are the other dedicated uppers designed the same way? I've been to their websites, but you can't really tell because they show you the outside of the upper.

The TacSol and Model1 both have 1:16 twist proper .22 barrels with .22lr chambers.

I had the Tactical Solutions upper. I really liked it. Groups were nice and tight and consistent. I only used CCI Mini Mags and it ate it up nicely. It was the only 22 upper I ever encountered so I have no say in the Spikes or CMMG.

I've bought 3 uppers from them now and they rock for shipping speed and pricing. Thanks. Twist and chamber are two of my biggest concerns. The other is the trigger.

I'm guessing probably not.

I don't really know who makes their barrels. I am guessing by the look of it that they are regular M4 blanks that have been bored and rifled for .22LR.

From my limited shooting, I'd say that it is not a match grade barrel and won't be as accurate as a Green Mountain barrel but since I don't have them side by side to compare, it is hard for me to say.

I'm right now getting 2-4 MOA out of my build using Federal Bulk pack ammo and BUIS.

I am thinking if you are really looking for top of the line accuracy then the Spikes or TacSol (especially with the free float) would be the way to go. But you are going to end up spending $100-$200 more.

For my needs, I think the CMMG was the best option.

Time will tell....

I am currently putting together an indepth no holes barred, warts and all, report on the CMMG upper, which I will post. I want to get one more range session prior however so maybe next week.

Spikes barrel, .22 CMMG BCG, any upper and build it yourself.
