Browsing around I saw on BPS they have these on sale. I don't know much about this rifle - what's the opinion here on CG?

Savage makes great bolt action rifles. The B series is included in that statement. I have a B17 and absolutely love it. Buy it, you'll be happy you did.Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Savage’s bolt action rifles are probably the best value for accuracy rifles out there, hands down, and I am going to include Ruger Americans, CZ’s and Anschutz in there for comparison too. The latter two cost much more (especially Anschutz) and the American is slightly less accurate. Get the B22, it’s a good shooter.NRA Pistol/Rifle Instructor

Of particular interest to me is that BPS has a LH version available. Too bad it's not a heavy barrel version. At well under $300 I might take a chance on one. Looks like a fun rifle.NRA & CRPA member

I have a Savage Model 10 in .223. I can attest to the quality and accuracy of Savage bolt rifles.
WWDHD, you might be able to find an after-market heavy barrel, not sure though. Might be worth a look-see.

I've got one in 10 day jail.
I read somewhere that the stock is the same for either the heavy "varmint" barrel or the standard barrel- there's an insert that can be removed to fit the larger barrel. If the "varmint" barrel was available in the LH version I'd have bought that in the first place.
Spare magazines are a little hard to find. Lots of places are OOS but I founds some for a fair price on BUDS. Bass Pro didn't have any in the store.NRA & CRPA member

So I've heard. I'm very familiar with 10/22 rotary mags but these A22/B22 mags seem to require a trick to load them by stabbing them in at about a 45 degree angle and then in? I watched a video of a guy loading one and it didn't look to bad.
Time to learn something new.

I have a MK II BV with composite stock and heavy barrel. I don't think it comes in a left hand version but this is an exceptionally fine rifle in both workmanship and accuracy.

This is a great value .22 rifle. I took it out today for the first time really just to function test it and I wound up shooting it a lot.
I put an old Nikon 3x9 scope from my previous 10/22 on it and it only took about 10 rounds to get it accurate. Blasted the center out of paper targets at 50 yards no problem. I even tried out to 100 yards and I was within the 10" Shoot & See targets I brought. And this was on a pretty windy day with crap Winchester ammo my other .22s won't tolerate at all. No malfunctions at all.
I'm really happy with this Savage. It's built very nice. The magazines are tricky to load but once I figured it out and they loosened up some from use it's no big deal. Next trip hopefully it's not so windy and I'll try a few other .22 ammo brands.
