    bolt .22 reccomendation...

So I'm looking for a bolt action .22 LR I want it to be a good shooting rifle without dropping a arm and a leg, It will mostly be keept in the truck for squirrel/ varmint control I want it to have good iron sites, Although it will probably end up with a small scope on it. Not really looking for a heavy barrel just a good ole .22 my heavy barrel 10/22 just doesn't give me that bolt action satisfaction ...

Highly recommend the savage mkII with accu trigger. Very accurate right out the box. Only thing I did to mine was added a scope. Shoots 1 MOA at 50 yards.

There's the Savage MkII FVT with peep sights, about $350. Accutrigger, too, if you are into that sort of thing

You might also want to consider a CZ452 Silhouette or a used Remington 541-X.

The CZ 452 is a fantastic rifle but for a truck gun I'd go with a stainless Savage for the accuracy and durability.

I am more so looking for a wood stocked classic looking rifle cheap and accurate. Im not to fond of the accutrigger.

                Buy a marlin, then.

They're not as popular, probably because they're cheap, but they shoot damn well.

They're cheap, wood-stocked, and the new triggers they use aren't half bad after you boost them a few times.

The 925 can be had for around $180, if that.

                  ^^very true^^I didn't think of Marlin.

Also, have you ever considered a Romanian M69 trainer? You can find them around $100. A friend of mine has one, it looks beat to all holy hell, but it works solid and reliable. I can't comment on the irons because his is topped with a crappy 4x BEC scope with a thick, canted reticle. But even with that scope, it'll hit a tin can at 75 yards almost every shot. Might be worth keeping an eye out for one.

Do yourself a favor and get a CZ 452 Full stock. That thing is a beaut. Shoots as good as the $1000+ guns.

I like the old Stevens/Western Auto guns. Cheap, reliable and surprisingly accurate.

The Romanian 1969 .22 trainers are very accurate shooters. With the right ammo they are capable of dime sized groups at 50 yards. They come with a 5-shot magazine, but the mags don't always work. My 13 year-old is just learning how to shoot a rifle and he has no problem hitting the 100 yard steel at Angeles. It is a pretty big target. 10" diameter I think.

I only have one bolt action rimfire so I can't compare with others.

That said, I have a surplus Mossberg M44 from the CMP. It was $175 and delivered to my doorstep. It cleaned up to be a real beauty. With Federal bulk I can get a quarter sized hole at 25 yards...using the iron sights.

It is my current favorite at the range. Iron sights are quite the challenge for my aging eyes.

Cheap, accurate, fun and it has a history (born in Aug 1944). What is not to love?

Do you have to be a member of the CMP to get it shipped to you're door? The M44 looks like a nice gun but big and heavy.
