Not only is it dangerous, but in a SHTF situation, can you pack out 2k rounds on you with ease with other calibers?

It's small, light, readily available (compared to other types of ammo) cheap and anybody can pick it up and shoot it.

It might not be so big, but it has it's advantages.

forget 2K rounds, you can probably pack 5K rounds for the same weight as 500-1000 rounds of the larger rifle calibers.

A friend of mine was shot in his leg by a 22. Presumaly it was by someone trying to steal his motorcycle. He rode off for help, but the bullet ricocheted off his femur up throuh his intestines. He died ~1mile away from the shooting.

It was not a well placed shot.

          Thanks 50BMGBOB for interesting read.
Man, I really didn't consider .22 was much more than just a plinking round for practice & fun but this opened up my eyes.

If the "well place" shot doesn't kill him, the infection might! It would not be my weapon of choice come SHTF, but if I have that or a sling shot, well....you know what I mean!

I can't even believe this question is being asked, mostly because its being asked by a Calguns member. I'm not Bashing anyone but,.....man, even an unloaded firearm is to be treated as Dangerous. Even a BB gun, at least I do. I can't speak for anyone but myself. I always thought that a 22 was more dangerous because I can carry a couple thousand rounds in my cargo shorts. The 22 in a simi-auto form would be one of my SHTF rifles for sure.

You need to look at autopsy photos like those of a 9 yr old who was shot in the head with a 22 by "accident" the perp said he didn't know the rifle was loaded which none of us believed but couldn't prove otherwise! The shooter was a juv delinquent loser. In the NYS prisons they used 22 rifles to break up riots in the yard the 22 round would enter an arm or leg and travel up or down quite a distance which made for some large scars on the prisoners ,they had to be opened up to repair the damage.

That was a good read about the turkey test. It is making me rethink the ability of a 22 rimfire to hunt coyote up to 100 yards. Most of what I have read says it is not good enough for yotes. Now I'm not so sure about that.

.22 will pierce some body armor. There are stories of people getting hit in the arm and the bullet bouncing around in the body and coming out in completely different area. People getting hit in the head with a 22 causes the bullet to enter the skull and bounce around the the head causing all sorts of problems.

oh yeah.. 22's are usually just lead and are porous. If it end up in your body there is a higher risk of infection

more people have been killed by .22 than any other caliber out there.
the danger with .22 is that it ricochets around the body doing damage.and if shot in the head will scramble the brain.
and why not coyotes....the .22 is a varmint gun and coyotes are varmints.
i shoot my daughters .22 out to 200 yrds.accurately so if the varmint of choice is standing still long enough......a few seconds....dirt nap for sure.
